Went to a dead Bosch SGS53A0gb/27 last week and replaced the filter capacitor which had blown ( combined mains lead type). Customer calls me back saying it’s got the same fault not circulating water 😕 . Now motor is getting red hot clicking and going off. In the little bit of action it gets there is no oomph (tech term). 250 volts to the motor pins and it turns freely by hand.
I’m presuming the motor winding has gone ( cap swapped but still the same happens) but is this a usual fault. Theyr’e talking new DW which would mean a refund of some sorts 😥 which i’d like to avoid so could the relay cause this fault?

If you’ve swapped the capacitor and have continuity through the motor, it more or less has to be the PTC start device – 187156.

    It’s an SGS53A02gb/27, btw.

    Re: Bosch dishwasher motor fault

Had one of these couple of years ago. Wasn’t taking in water; unblocked feed, filled. Put on for test, no circulation. Looked at motor. Tried change of uf – no better. Found burns on PTC device. Tried a new PTC device -seem to remember it cost me about £14 – no better. Went to look at module, found blown track around relays. Repaired board – motor kicked in but circulation weak. Could not figure it – gave up. 😳 That took about three visits. I kept the new PTC but have never had cause to try it in any machine since. 🙁

I’ve ordered the PTC so I’ll keep you posted.

    🙁
Dishwasher still the same with new PTC device. Motor red hot after less than 20 seconds, running slow and then clicks off (presumably thermal cut out) then back on after 10 secs. Customer has decided she needs a new dishwasher so I doubt I’ll get to the bottom of this one.
