Hi all: Just had a call about the above machine, customer says that it has tripped the mains 3 times on the E cycle but does not trip on any other cycle, any ideas / suggestions would be appreciated.
Sorry no other info regarding model etc as I have not seen the machine yet.

I would check the heater first. By “any other cycle” they might just mean rinse and spin. If its a WM model it may well be a cracked spider.

What does your megger say? as Phidom says the spider may be cracked and damaged the heater although they would have complained of it being noisy on spin, check the insulation with water in the machine, fill it by hand to be on the safe side 😉

They might not have heard a noise yet, depends where the machine is located. If the heater is faulty then when you take it out, if it has grooves or scratches cut in it about an inch in from the teminals then deffinately a spider and bearing job.

Hi Phidom & thanks for the reply, according to the customer she has tried the machine on the H & J cycles and it works fine but when she tries the E cycle it trips out.

Hi All: Just been out to look at this machine & put through on the E, the only problem I could find was that the timer knob stuck between pump out & start of spin. The mains then tripped out, reset RCD & manually advance timer to spin and all o.k so I took the timer button off & cleaned all the c{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}$p from around it then tried it again twice on the same cycle, problem solved no more tripping. Dont you just love clean customers?
anyway thanks for the helpful replies: Andy.

    Strange one that!!!!!

If you do get a call back…check the wires to the pump that run down the front of machine from timer.

Ahh the old sticky knob problem :rolls: :rotl:
Can’t understand why it was tripping elecs. I presume the insulation was good when you tested it?

    Re: Hotpoint Aquarius 1000

Hi Guys: Checked all wiring cant find any breaks or chafing anywhere, and the insulation test was good. Have just spoken to the cmr & she says her daughter has done 2 loads on the E cycle since I left & no further problems, it’s a new one on me.
Anyway thanks once again for your input I appreciate it, when you work on your own it’s nice to have someone to bounce ideas off & get a new perspective on a problem: Andy 😀
