ParticipantHi. I have a Diplomat APM 8512 washing machine. It has suddenly stopped spinning. It actually goes through the cycle of spinning but the clothes are still wet after.
I read my manual and it said about the filter needing cleaning so I removed the filter but turning it slightly and pulling it out. It was full of absolute rubbish, so I cleaned it and went to put it back in but do you think I can get the darn thing back in the hole! The rubber washer is just too big and won’t allow the filter to push back far enough into the hole.
I know you’re probably thinking I’m absolutely barmey but it just will not go back in.
Is there anyone who can help me? I have read on the forum that the problem may be over loading in the machine. I don’t think I’ve over loaded it but cannot try it with less of a load in the machine until I get this bloomin filter back in.
Please somebody help me.

Participanterm, try unscrewing the head of the filter a little bit?
then you could smear a little bit of washing up liquid on the rubber to help it fit a little betterFebruary 11, 2009 at 10:27 pm #277171kettle282

There is no screw on the head of the filter. There’s just a rim which the rubber washer fits into, which it does, but it doesn’t go flat enough for it to fit into the hole!
I honestly did not touch the washer once it was out of the machine. I just cleaned it and then tried to get it back in. It seems like it has swollen!
I have tried greasing it and it hasn’t worked but thanks for the suggestions.

OK. My husband had tried vaseline, not washing up liquid. Just tried it and we have managed to get it back in! With a mighty struggle I might add. So thanks for that.
Now I’ve taken out half of the load and put it on a 1000 spin. Am sitting in my kitchen watching a washing machine spin round and round – how exciting on a Wednesday night. Please all pray that the washing is dry when I get it stops. Watch this space ….. if you’re the least bit interested that is!

yipppeee we have dry clothes. I’m assuming either the filter being disgustingly dirty was the problem or the overloading thingy.
Don’t care now as long as its back working.
Thank you for your suggestion of the fairy liquid.
