Here is one for you all to chew over. Just befor christmas I had a company set up adjacent to me selling spares on ebay to the general public at trade prices or even somtimes less than I am paying . DONT these large companies who we all deal with! and supply these ebay`ers realise that they are not only harming us service engineers but also themself in the long term .Perhaps it`s something that could be approached at your Feb meeting .I would love to be there but work commitments come first. ❓ 😆

This is a subject I have tackled with a few suppliers now.

Some of the people on Fleabay are taking the proverbial and I have made my disgruntlement known.

I have to say that one of the best for doing something about it, so far, is Whirlpool which surprised me as much as it will probably shock everyone else. They have actively stopped some of the people on Ebay by reducing the sellers discount level to make the prices unsustainable.

But if no-one tells the suppliers who these people are then they can’t do much about it…

I have a large quantity of Whirlpool Spares new and boxed all in common use and for appliances mostly less than four years old. I cannot find a buyer for these so if you were me what would you do. Put them on fleabay for half trade?

im with bazil on this, i too have a load of spares to shift, so ebay seems an attractive option, and if your company next door is selling for less than you can buy trade, why not buy off him?

    Re: ebay sales

had a go at qualtex over this there was 1 hoover motor i could have bought £20 cheaper on ebay. the problem for us now is they will disguise the problem with the excuse of rising prices. what we need is a standard basket of common spares used and see which supplier can supply it cheaper and how much the spares can be bought on ebay. we need to show our suppliers that if they dont give us the discounts we can go elsewhere.

    Re: ebay sales

I would be happy to post these spares on UK Whitegoods for the benefit of all at half trade cost but selling one at a time at a loss is not really a vaible proposition. If any one has a solution I would be glad to listen.

    Re: ebay sales

    From the Shop FAQ.

I am in the trade, can I buy parts from you?

Yes. There is absolutely no problem and we will supply traders with spare parts.

It is not our primary role but we do realise that we can source many spare parts for machines that are perhaps off the radar of normal trade suppliers.

There might be a huge missed opportunity here for UKW. Why not be a major supplier of trade spares at competative prices? After all you are already stocking many spares, all that would be needed is the facility on the web site for trade access and trade prices. Your carriage structure of three catagories starting at £2.95 is good, if you stocked a good range of spares you might find that many UKW members would be interested in making you thier main supplier.

It might even be possible to also establish a second hand (new) spares facility where surplus stock could be purchased from members and resold to others who might have need of it. Or this stock could be transfered directly between members with UKW advertising its availablity and charging a small commision. Food for thought?

    Re: ebay sales

It’s been mooted before quite a few times Andy but, TBH, it’s not what we do primarily. I’m a great believer in sticking to what you know and do well or, if you are going to go into something else, try to make sure you do it as well as possible.

Fact is, we’re not geared toward trade sales.

Sure, we’ll help if you’re stuck and we’ve no qualms whatsoever about supplying trade where it’s required but I don’t think that we’ll ever be a trade distributor like Masterpart, CDSL or any of the others. They are far better geared for trade distribution than we are and are therefore, almost invariably, cheaper than we are as well.

Using UKW as a backup or fallback option, no problem, we’ll help if we possibly can.

I tried it when we pulled out of Merloni. By the time you took piccies or plagurised someone elses, loaded it all up answered the silly inane questions from punters, was a waste of time.

E-Bay is a buyers medium, but as you are selling a “Crisis Purchase” there may be no call in that week for what you are trying to get rid of.

I’ve still got Philco bits, as well as Merloni and they are being scrapped this year. MFI are gradually dwindling and Candy was skipped in 1999.
