I have just been to this Zanussi washer dryer (WJD1457W), the customer said that it leaped out of its space between the units damaging one in the process; they did rush to switch it off. This was during a spin, the only item in the machine was a king size flannelette sheet that was to one side of the drum.

The problem since then is that the dryer does not work, no fan, pump or heat but water goes in. I did run the diagnostic program and the fan, pump and heater all worked then. I have had the module PCB off to see if there was any damage to it could not see any all looked o.k. I am not getting any fault code displayed. Before the machine did it dance the dryer was working ok, as it it’s used regularly.

Am I looking at a new module or could it be anything else?

I have just had a phone call from this customer to say that they tried to use the washing side of the machine and that it starts to fill stops and that’s it no fault code either. I did test all this when I was there yesterday I put the machine on a wash program and all worked ok for me let it run for about 10 minutes before putting it to spin and drain, In fact I did it about three times in all.

    Any help appreciated
    Thanks

Bernie it’s got to be a broken connection problem somewhere I would imagine. Unfortunately there’s too many issues involved here to hazard a guess and everything will need checking and double checking I’m afraid. It could be one thing or several? πŸ™

Thanks for the reply Martin, so it might not be the module, then will go back and have another good look

    Thanks

Ah, sorry, can’t rule a faulty module out either Bernie at this stage. In fact a faulty module wouldn’t reveal any error code so you need to bear that in mind too I guess? πŸ™

Just been back to this machine it was the pressure tube that had got damaged by the suspension spring when it leaped out of its space.

How a damaged pressure tube would stop the dryer from working beats me, I can see why it stopped the washer heater from working but not the dryer.

    Beats me too.:con:

But maybe, just maybe, the connector to the dryer NTC in the bottom condenser hose had come adrift? And fixing the damage pressure hose you inadvertently reconnected it?…just a thought? πŸ˜•

Re: Zanussi WJD1457W Dryer not working

The dryer programme starts with the condensor valve. Once the electronic pressure switch senses the rise in water level it will switch on the bottom dryer element and the pump. When the dryer ntc senses the temperature from the element it will switch on the dryer fan and top element. So a split in the pressure pipe would stop both element, pump and fan. The error code would be hidden but would normally show up as last error in the diagnostic programme.

Do you know, I never realised the pressure switch ever formed part of the drying cycle? Or that on a cottons dry cycle only the bottom element comes on first? The TDS disk illustrates the principle drying cycle but doesn’t show a sequence chart to know what happens and when? πŸ˜•

Thanks for the explanation Flyman, as you said the condensor valve came on but that was all.

    Thanks again
