ParticipantCalled to the above machine today fault reported as ‘dial keeps going round’ customer not aware of number of flashes.
Machine was full of water so drained down and cleared blocked filter.
Put machine on, after filling it flashed 15 times, error for this is Dryer element or relay stuck. The dryer element checked out OK also checked machine for earth faults, tightened the connectors.
Put the machine on again, it filled, drum rotates several times and then time flashed 8 times! This fault suggested heater relay. Again tested wash element, tapped PCB, re-tightened connectors and tested. This time the machine flashed 1 time which indicates faulty motor triac! I guess I should be pleased with this as I am gradually reducing the number of flashes 😕
Checked motor, removed carbon brushes and cleaned, went over the connections yet again.Put machine on, it fills, goes through a few wash actions and guess what….. flashes 2 times now! This indicates jammed motor. Remove and connectors, check pins to make sure none are bent back then refit.
Try again and machine still fills and revolves several times then flashes 2 times. My gut feeling is this is a problem with the connectors as the fault has changed several times but having tightened them a few times I can’t see it making any difference. The only other possibility is the Merloni PCB but I couldn’t imagine that being faulty :rolls:
Can anyone suggest anything I have missed or have any other solution to this?

Think I’d have given up some time before you did! That’s what I call dedication!
“Jammed motor” presumably means no signal from tacho. Could be a dodgy crimp/IDC connection around motor plug area. As you’ve got this far, might as well try wiggling and pulling the wires about both sides of that plug, one might come away in your fingers with luck.
But even if you get it solved, I wonder how long it’ll be before you get a call back. :rolls:

Get a PCB from EMW and try it – cheapest and quickest option…..

If this was the case I wouldn’t have thought the motor would have turned at the normal wash speed several times each time tested before giving an error. I would have expected either no rotation or the motor ramp up to full speed before showing a fault.
If the customer decides they want it done I was thinking of using EMW in case, it’s a shame you don’t get a years guarantee anymore.

Hmm. That’s what I’d expect if it was a ten year old Hoover or a Zanussi but I have never yet had a modern Indy/Ariston give such an easily recognised symptom!

Classic module/eeprom failure I would have thought. I’m with Steve on this, give EMW a bell. 😉

Trouble with fitting a re-con module to what is a 5+? year old Merloni by now is that other stuff is likely to start falling apart pretty soon, e.g. bearings/spider. So how impressed will the customer be if she’s shelled out on that module? I’d err on the side of advising a new one. (Different if it was a Bosch 5yo though).

I have already priced this based on a module, I am waiting to hear if they want it done,
I won’t be too upset if they decide not to replace it!
