ParticipantHi
We have had a DWI 614 dishwasher for about 2 and a half years and it has started giving us some problems.
On some occasions, it nearly completes a wash but then stops near the end and beeps. It usually displays an E8 message (although sometimes it shows an E5 message). The plates have been cleaned but are a little streaky (they are hot and pretty dry). Sometimes, the dishwasher will smell a little too.
On other occasions, the dishwasher does not start at all and displays an E8 message.
We did a few searches online and found that the E8 error message could be because the dishwasher needs a new “diverter valve”. We bought this and installed it but the dishwasher didnt work.
We took out the new valve, put the old one in and now it works from time to time as above (i.e. as it did before we changed the part).
We also took out all the filters and gave them a good clean.
Unfortunately we have not been able to find out what other part may need changing. We would therefore be really grateful for any advice anyone on the forum could provide us with.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards
Z

If we start from the basics, the diverter valve switches the flow of water between the top and bottom rotors, thus allowing the machine to fill with less water. E8 means that the machine thinks that this motorised valve unit is out of circuit. This can be motor failure, broken wiring or a switching problem on the pcb. If only one basket is getting cleaned, it’s a sure sign.
E5 is no fill detected in the time allowed. These machine are particularly prone to sludging problems, which can affect the water level control system. If there is water coming into the machine, this is especially true. If there is no water coming into the machine, the inlet valve or water supply may be at fault; again wiring or pcb issues may be to blame or possibly the water level pressure switch.
Finally, these machines are particularly susceptible to corruption issues with the PCB. Various “suprise” factors can be involved – the mains suppressor is particularly prone to breaking down and causing spurious errors and the soap dispenser causes all sorts of odd faults.
I’m afraid that there is no “obvious” answer to your problem.

Hi Penguin45
Thanks a lot for your reply.
I replaced the diverter valve and this did not help. I see from your email that determining the cause of the problem is not going to be easy.
In order to try to fix it, can you please advise on what you would do next, after confirming that the problem is not the diverter vale. BTW, what’s the PCB?
Let me just confirm that when the machine does work, water goes into the top and bottom trays and the extent to which things are cleaned is the same regardless of where they are in the machine.
Sometimes, the soap tablet is not fully dissolved and is lying at the cottom fo the machine.
I had thought that the”computer” had gone, hence the it works, it doesnt work, E8 or E5, etc.
Any further help and advice, is greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much again for taking time to help us.
Kind regards
Z
