    In the past I have always used VC1 stats for fridges with an ice box, and VT9 or W4 stats for f/f and larder fridges, (or sometimes a genuine stat if required) with no problems. In the thread ‘common refrigerator hints’ it is suggested that I stock VX0 stats.

    Can any one tell me when I would need to use the VX0 type

    Yes I know what you mean about the list of thermostats in the ‘common refrigerator hints’, they mean nothing without a description next to them.

    I use VXO’s for single larder fridges and VT9’s for fridge freezers. Sometimes VT9’s can overice in a single fridge.

    The VX0 stat was developed to counter defrost problems with refrigerators that had an evaporator held within the lining rather than exposed and mounted in the front of the lining. You can usually get away with fitting a VX0 where you would normally fit a VT9 but not always the other way around 8)

    Recently had a two year old Hotpoint larder,model RLA64 it was freezing almost everything.Tried the VXO’s but the fridge was just the same.
    The customer went for a new one so I asked for the fridge as it was bugging me. In the end I loosened the condenser and cut a square of insulation 6″ x 6″ out of the back where i thought the phial of the stat would be and found that the metal tube which the phial of the stat pokes into had come away from the evaporator (it’s just taped on in manufacture)so no chance of it switching off.
    Fitted VT9 with a clamp and it’s now a good second fridge in the garage 🙂

    Thanks for the replies guys. I did fit an VT9 to a large Hotpoint RL850 larder fridge, where the capillary went down a tube, but it kept overfreezing. So I ended up fitting a genuine Hotpoint one, and it cured the fault. But gen stats are quite pricey. Maybe a VX0 would have fitted. Thanks again.

    i have had so many issues with stats that i only fit gen ones now other than on the obvious old hotpoints etc which vt9s are fine for.i have found it eliminates call backs then you have to possibly charge a bit more for the gen which cust isnt over happy aboput.
