Many of the later dishwashers have external valves that are coupled to the stopcock. (Bosch/AEG/Zanussi etc) Earlier versions incorporate a water block that involves a pressure tube that runs all the way back to the fill matrix to stop water flow. The latest ones don’t include this tube, they just have what appears to be 2 solenoids?……………..How the hell do they work? 😕

To be sure – to be sure is the Oirish answer to that.
Solenoids are in sequence on some, one after the other, if anything was to get trapped in seal seating & allow water to flow through the other solenoid should stop it.

Machines destined for the german market have to have these ‘Aquastops’ its a requirement that the water is isolated at the point of entry from the tap, if the hose becomes damaged there should be no uncontroled leakage onto the floor.
The theory with the BSH ones is that if the tap leaks it goes into the couragated aquastop hose and back into the machine to operate the antiflood device, this is why they are specific on the orientation of the aquastop valve to the tap, all the valves in aquastop hoses are potted to prevent moisture ingress, if you change one you must heat shrink the cables with the connectors provided or change the whole assembly.All this said, it never stops mice chewing through the drain hoses!!

In the Miele waterproof version that i’ve seen most of in my work there are two separate solenoids wired in parallel but the pipework is obviously in series, this coupled by double walled hose & a float switch which brings on drain pump. They waterproof system will only work when machine is switched on the door closed though.
