ParticipantHi
Drum is now out and the rear bearing removed. Now the seal and front bearing. Is the front bearing held by a circlip between seal and bearing? Is there a method to remove the seal and bearing or just hammer them out? Is the self tapping screws and claw hammer the normal method of getting the seal out? As the drum is plastic I don’t want to give it too much welly in case it gets broken. Just hammer out rear seal and bearing?
Also in a previous post I was recommended to change the timer. Can’t find it. Synchronous motor behind the program knob and what appears to be a pressure switch, door switch and two PCB’s and a motor. Thats about it. So where is this timer?
Cheers for the help.
(Drum came out last night at midnight, very mucky but not too bad a job)April 3, 2009 at 9:41 am #282115ratdogfink

Seal and bearing. I drilled two small holes in the seal and screwed in two self tapping screws and used a claw hammer to prise the seal out. The bearing behind is well shot. Bearing and seal now out.

Water pump pliers are just the right shape for levering out seals. You hook one of the jaws into the seal and tap the end of the handle with a rubber hammer.

When I took the lower weight off, the weight has large metal washers at the fixing points. One of these was off the fixing post and crshed between the weight and the drum, bent to about 90 degrees. It was never in place since the machine was new. Can I run without it? There is some wear on the drum fixing post!

Silence is golden! Well that went well. Now tested and at full spin speed the most noise is the pump running. Very pleased. New bearings and seal £19 delivered from UK WG. Cool. Many thanks to all that helped with this one, I wasn’t confident but re assembly was easy. Bearing shafts and sockets cleaned up well.
Thanks to every one who helped. (it sounds more like a jet taking off as it gathers speed). Now thinking of a re spary (pistachio green), led’s and cold cathode lighting. As the drum is translucent CCT should shine through. -
