Spins and drains fine when set to spin but any wash or rinse programme selected it just fills, then almost immediately level is reached, pumps out and the display goes to drain only and that’s it.
I found the probable reason for this to be a badly rusted and seized recirculation pump caused by a leak from condenser hose above it, which had been “repaired” with debor by some previous meddler. However, after replacing these items and expecting everything to be hunky dory, I was a bit peeved to find that the fault remained exactly as before. 🙁
Have extracted main board (why couldn’t they have made that easier) and brought it home for a thorough examination.
Just wondering, would it have made any difference if I got the recirc pump terminals reversed? (no toc in it anyway).
Do EMW repair these boards yet? Their site doesn’t list them.
Any suggestions appreciated. Also tech info might be useful.
    Mike.

Likely circulation pump open circuit or reading high/low in resistance. The pumps are known to cause faults like this. Heater or motor earth fault can cause similar problems and also analogis pressure switches.

Best to go into diagnostics & see what fault code is to confirm.

The wires to a shaded pole motor can go either way round. The polarity reverses 50 times a second anyway.

    Thanks for replies.
Seamy, how do I do the diagnostics on this model? As I said before, I have put a NEW circulation pump in to replace the burnt out one; should that not have cured it?

I’m beginning to feel more and more certain that the burnt out pump has blown something on the module. Hope it’s not the processor.

Phidom, thanks; I really ought to know these things. 😳

Have discovered little hole blown out of a semiconductor near the edge of the board and well away from the processor. Googling what was left of the inscription on the component brought up references to data sheets. This thing is a glorified triac which automatically protects the processor in cases of overload. Have ordered a couple from Farnell, will update when successful repair completed, he says full of confidence. 😀

I did wonder if it could be the solid state switch that they tend to use instead of a relay for switching pumps, valves etc. It is actually a simplified triac as it is merely an ON/OFF device whereas a triac can provide variable output for speed control etc. They sometimes go short circuit on the Zanussi boards, causing the drain or recirculating pump to run continuously.

Got the replacement AC switch eventually after Easter getting in the way and bit of a cook up by UPS trying to find me.
Also replaced a nearby relay which seemed a bit sluggish on test.
Managed to re-install the board this morning and left it running on a wash. Re-setting etc doesn’t appear to have been necessary. Anyway that’s two hours ago and not heard anything so keeping fingers crossed.
I find getting the board in and out of these WD’s a PITA. Does anybody have any tips to make that easier?
Thanks for the technical back up and moral support guys.

Hiya Mike: Have you got the Farnell part number for these or the number off the component ?

    Thanks: Andy 8)

Tony at EMW will have a hissy if we start doing this in big numbers 😯

    Andy,
Farnell order code 129-5340. Description ACS108-6SN-TR:switch AC 0.8A.
    (Original was AC108-5SN).
    Mac,
I’m sure Tony isn’t worried. He’ll always be one step ahead. We’ve got to be out repairing washers all day, so no time to catch up. 🙂
    Mike.
