I considered buying a new washing machine recently when mine failed, but did eventually repair it thanks to help here.

I notice that many, if not most, washing machines are now deeper than 600mm. As most kitchens and utility rooms are built to 600mm how are the public supposed to fit these machines into their houses without them sticking way out into the room?

Is they’re any indication that new houses are being built with deeper than 600mm worktops?

    Re: Washing machine size

The average (industry standard) depth of a modern washing machine is 57 cms and standard kitchen carcase units are just 56 cms. So I agree, there is a distinct incompatibility. Much like the modern single garage is too small for any car to drive into and get out! :rolls:

    Not strictly true.

I have just checked the first 50 machines on the Comet web site and out of those only three, 2 Zanussi and 1 Bosch are exactly 600cm. Not a single one was over 600cm.

    Hi

Which makes and models were you looking at, as most are 60cm or very to it. The most common thing we come across is any plumbing which stands out from the wall to far.

I was going on the sizes given in last Which? magazine article. They do tend to review high end models which are the larger ones. But when I looked in Currys I also saw many larger ones.

Bosch, Hotpoint, Miele and many others are still coming in at 600 deep. I guess you may be looking at the 8kg load machines which are indeed deeper.
