Could be a problem with the ON/OFF switch. Sometimes you get burnt contacts which quickly get hot and go high resistance. The correct switch appears to be no longer available but it is sometimes possible, if the switch is a double pole type, to bypass the faulty pole and use it as a single pole switch. In such cases the switch should be wired so only the live is switched.
Another part to check is the mains filter/suppressor which connects to the mains cable where it enters the machine. Look at that for signs of overheating.
Also check for corrosion at the plug pins and try the machine in a different socket to eliminate the socket as a suspect.

🙁 Hi, thank you for your advise, have done every thing you suggested, but the proplem still remains, the machine won’t even fill up without stopping at the start of a cycle now. As the machine is over 13 years old,i think it’s time to save up and buy a new one, ❓ any suggestions on a good make and model of washing machine would be greatly appreciated. 😕
