    Hi All,

My Tumble dryer is spinning but not heatng and I have taken the back off and Identified 2 Thermostats. One has a green dot. The other has a little hole between the 2 terminals. The green dot one has 106 degrees printed on it and the other one has 150 degrees printed on it.

I have searched around the Internet and the thermostat that keeps coming up is this one (or looks like this one): http://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/Tumble+D … ostat.html

However, the terminals are flat on mine (rather than upright) and that thermostat says it is 58 degrees and neither of mine are. Also, I must require 2 thermostats? Lastly, that thermostat says it is fitted at the front of the machine, whereas mine are located on the back.

If anyone could shed any light it would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks,
    Craig

Before you order the thermostats you need to use a Multimeter & check that they are actually faulty i.e open circuit, at the same time check the continuity of the heating element.
When you identify which part you need, use the enuiry feature for shop at & they will tell you which kit you need.

PLEASE REMEMBER POWER OFF & PLUG OUT BEFORE CHECKING YOUR MACHINE.

    ok,

I’ve just checked them with one of those little screwdirvers that lights up as I can’t find my multimeter (my g/f will know where it is when she gets back) and it is showing continuity on both thermostats and the element.

I just tried bypassing both thermostats (which I assume would work) and this did not work either. The heater is also showing continuity, so now I am stumped.

Oh no it isn’t, Its just showing that there is a live feed, nothing at all to do with continuity. :rolls:

Live testing and poking screwdrivers into machines is rather foolish and should not be done under any circumstances, its downright dangerous, as is bypassing safety devices.

The only way to proceed is with a proper multimeter or meggar with the machine unplugged at all times.

Cheers for the reply. Don’t worry the machine was unplugged when I tested it. :rolls:

The screwdriver definately shows continuity. It can’t have been a live feed as not only was the dryer unplugged, but the thermostat was not even connected to the machine. It’s one of those screwdrivers where you hold one terminal and push the blade of the driver on the other. If the screwdriver lights up, you have a circuit. If not you don’t. As both thermostats lit up I believe that is not the cause of the issue.

I am alswo aware that bypassing thermostats is dangerous if you were to leave them bypassed and carry on using the machine. If you are doing it just to test them for a couple of minutes, then I see no problem with that. Again the element did not heat up.

tbh, I will probably just buy a new machine as anything other than thermostats is beyond my capability and a new element is £50 and I’m not even convinced it’s that.

there is no better test of anything than a mulitimeter/megger

this is becoming more and more common… people reading other forums and concluding things that arent the case

obviously, youve run the machine with the thermostats bypassed .. its dangerous and wreckless

u may well find the cure for your dryer is more simple than you realise…
more recent dryers are lower quality than the one you have, and that should be a consideration

    The screwdriver definately shows continuity.

What you have is a simple ‘circuit tester’ I very much doubt it is a screwdriver, does it have a flat or Philips type end like a screwdriver or a simple probe?

The heating elements don’t often fail, stats and the occasional timer far more common.
