ParticipantLooking for some help. Dishwasher not filling, found float activated microswitch broken. Then found that when machine started to fill the side tank, the water only trickled over the U tube instead of syphoning down. I have opened all pipework to prove clear and water pressure is good. I have noticed that as the inlet water passes thru the venturi the flow alters a lot and pulls in a lot of air. Any wise words would be appreciated.

The side tank is a metering device connected to water softener so there is not much pressure behind the water inlet, designed that way, steady flow is normal, how long does it take to fill ?getting on for a couple of minute is OK.
If your switch is broken replace it (although 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the parts for this old girl are obsolete).
Someone on here may be able to help you out with a spare if you are stuck.April 11, 2009 at 10:42 am #282948BillyC

I think the tank should fill and drain 3 times but it only fills the main part of the tank then spills over the syphon tube down into machine.

I would then remove and clean all hoses fitted to the sump etc they become gunged and don’t let the water through to the wash chamber, couple of towels and tip it over on it’s side for access.

Water gets from the float chamber to the sump ok, its getting the water from the side tank to the float chamber thats not working properly. Its asif there isnt enough pressure to push the water across the bend of the u tube to create the syphon effect.

Hopefully someone else will contribute but as I remember these the water that is left in the side chamber is held for regeneration and is released later on in the prog to back wash the resin with the brine solution and is seperate to the fill water.
There is no pressuire other than atmospheric to allow the water from the float chanber to flow through into the sump, once it is in the float chamber it is at atmospheric, there is a delay whilst it flows through into the sump and drops the float switch again for the following fills, all sump hoses should be removed and cleaned as arestriction in these could prevent the equlisation of the level and prevent dropping the float switch.
These also had a bye pass for setting to the water hardness so that some water flowed directly into the chamber as well as that which went in via the float chamber.
The float switch mech should be clean and free moving and also check that float itself has no water in it.
Its ispossibly more important to check the hoses that go from the float chamber to the sump for blockages as the supply hoses.April 11, 2009 at 6:33 pm #282952BillyC

Thanks for the help. The side tank has 3 chambers, the top most is filled by leak off from a venturi and is used as a backflush as you suggested. The bigger section is filled from the venturi down into the salt reservoir and then up to the tank, as this level rises to the top it comes to an inverted U and should syphon down to the float chamber. This is repeated 3 times. Float mechanism is good and all pipes are clear. For some reason the water only trickles over the syphon tubes to the float chamber. I can trick it into operating and cycle completes perfectly, very frustrating!!

Turn off water. Stick fill hose in bucket and check that you do have decent pressure to the machine. If you do, the inlet valve is knackered and needs replacing.

Many thanks for that. Stripped inlet valve as far as I could and backflushed with hot water, lot of gunge came out. Refitted and tested, water pressure at least double. Hooray!!!
