ParticipantWe are after a new double oven, as our current electric one is old and doesn’t work properly. I was just wondering if the same thing exists in gas? We have always preferred gas in the past, but switched when the new kitchen was fitted. The gas pipe for the hobs runs behind the oven housing, so a gas source is present. I have seen gas built-under ovens, but never eye level. Is it because of some kind of safety issue? There must be a reason for why they are virtually non existent. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi
Not many around I`m afraid. I searched a couple of weeks ago for a customer and from the brands we can obtain I came up with the Stoves machines. They are not cheap by any means so be prepared for a shock.

I thought they did as well, but it seems they are only carrying a twin cavity model nowadays.

Participantbe aware, having a pipe to the hob does not mean theres adequate supply for both a hob and a double gas oven… you really need to consult a ‘gas safe register’engineer to work out pipe sizing and suitability
it would be foolish to buy one and not do the homework

Just like your namesake, a gas-oven is inefficient, fuel thirsty and not good for it’s environment 😆
It is a necessity of combustion that you draw in air, therefore you must constantly vent hot flue-gases into the kitchen in order to cook. IMHO, the “sealed box” environment of an electric oven is better-suited to the task.Hobs are a different animal,-I believe induction is very energy-efficient, followed by Halogen( but you can buy a HUGE amount of electricity with the price-difference! )……..ceramic and Radiant are low down, as they produce heat from the underside which the designer attempts to reflect up to the utensil.
IMHO, the flexibility and instant response of a gas hob, outweighs the loss of heat through flame-spread and convection.
leccy oven, gas hob, best gombination

i think the preference for gas ovens comes from the moister cooking atmosphere and the fact a decent gas oven will outlive a electric oven. leccy oven elements seem to see 2-3 years of life out of an element (esp bosch/neffs, bellings, and hotpoints – i.e. the big main 3. But the youngest gas oven we sold our gassafe engineer has been out to was just over 5 yrs old.
Also yes, new world only do single and t/cav gas ovens
Belling offers the xou90g
Stoves offer the 900gdo and 900gRdo (Fotostar model)Baumatic may well still make one but their build quality is pretty poo
Dont think bosch neff or siemens do
Elux group might have one between Elux, AEG, Tri/ben and Zanussi but Elux oven are expensive for what you get
