ModeratorFitted this AW23 last week, Customer has just rung saying doorlock light is flashing and display shows E54.
She has tried opening and closing the door to no avail.
As yet I don’t have any parts for these machines, does it have a standard doorlock and what on earth is E54. 😕

A bit of a head scratcher….
I hope the powers that be can find out just what E54 is supposed to mean.
Customer only had machine a week. Done three or four washes without problems.
Set it on this morning to a Cottons 40° programme. The display showed E54 and the door lock light was flashing even though the door is locked.
I have just called to it, and as reported all there is in the display is E54 and flashing doorlock light.
Turned machine off and switched off at the mains. Switched back on and E54 still showing.
Turned off again and waited until door unlocked. Switched on again, still E54, starting to panic now, 🙂 so when in doubt, press the Start/Reset button.
I held the button in and after a couple of seconds the display changed to 015, note that is 015 not 0:15 as in fifteen minutes.
Then after another couple of seconds the display changed to the correct wash display for a 40° cottons wash and five seconds later burst into life and started the programme.
Hopefully someone will be able to find out what E54 is, PLEASE.
Jim.

Did you try switching off at the mains and then switching back on and holding the Start button in, thats how I cleared the one I had and as yet have had no call back.

Oh ****! Tried the reset and now it works ok. Pity it cost me two flights of stairs and a refund.

Did you get 015 in the display before it reset to the programme display?

I dont remember Jim (it was more than 5 mins ago). I think it just jumped into the programme. I hope the neighbours were not too offended by the language

Had one showing E42 today, on initial switch on during install. 😥
Press and hold, Start/Pause button cleared it.May 11, 2009 at 9:40 pm #283460kwatt

Went to one tonight, drove 200 miles to do it just to see if you were having a senior moment Jim! 😆
Same thing exactly, E54, flashing door lock light.
Pressed and held the Start/Reset for about 20-30 seconds and it reset. Switched to Off on the knob, back on, let the door lock release and it was fine after that.
Now other fault found, tested out fine, wiring all okay.
I suspect that a spike in the mains may be causing the error or, possibly, something the customer is doing but without any proof it’s hard to say. If it is mains related that could explain the odd E42 that seemingly doesn’t exist as well, could just be bogus faults.
At any rate the advice we’ll now give to customers, if it ever happens again, is to reset the machine and give it another go.

Ah, but did you get 015 in the display before it reset, 8)
Would still be interested to know what is inside the ‘other’ machine that had the E42. 😉

KeymasterRe: AW23…E54?
Yes, I do. 😉
It’s a case of people being impatient and pressing the button too fast. They see the delay flashing and try to skip it instead of just leaving the damn thing to start, brains get confused… E54!
Press and hold the start/RESET for 20-30 second and restart the program and it’s fine.
