Domestic Applicance Distributors Limited (DAD), the distributor of domestic appliances well known in the trade, is reported to be in the process of going into administration with a loss of £2.3m.

Puncline reports that around 70 staff at the Tewkesbury offices face an uncertain future whilst awaiting an official announcement from the company.

The business was acquired in April 2022 when the firm’s founders, the Gillman family, sold the business to an overseas investor.

DAD was founded in 1992 by the Gillman family and saw success that led to a £70m turnover.

Robert Gillman, co-owner of the Gillman Electrical Group, on St Oswalds Road in Gloucester, told Punchline-Gloucester.com: “We sold the DAD business three years and four months ago as a very healthy concern, and it now has absolutely nothing to do with the Gillman family, which is still trading well from Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Exeter.”

He added: “Today is a sad day after all the years that the Gillman family put into the DAD business.”

It is reported that no full accounts from DAD have been filed with Companies House since the takeover in 2022.

Of course, many of us are aware that DAD also owned and operated the Montpellier and Iceking brands, and, as yet, we do not know what the future holds for either of those or what the implications will be for service moving forward.

** Correction**

DAD does not own the Montpellier brand, it is a seperate company. It is mooted in the trade as being so because DAD distributed a lot of Montpellier products but it is not correct that DAD owned the brand.
