    Siemens Sikafrost KK29U00 FD2405 002310

    Fridge freezer probem:

The freezer alarm went off a couple of times having gone up to 13°C – I used the super-freeze function to get it back down.

I’ve noticed ice build up at the bottom of the freezer which I cleared away but after reading some other posts I can now see the fan in the back of the freezer part is trying to spin but is scraping against ice (I think this just started happening yesterday as I noticed the noise)

I notice there are water droplets clinging to the back of the fridge also.

Can anyone advise what’s wrong, if this is repairable, and if this is cost-effective since it is fairly old (I inherited it from previous flat-owners nearly 6 yrs ago and not sure how long they had before that!)

    Hi LJDomestics,

    Thanks for your reponse

No I don’t know how to check the thermostat – can you advise?

I’m looking to decide whether to have the FF repaired or buy a new one depending on cost-effectiveness of repair.. if it’s the thermostat would this be a cheapish repair?

Hi Miro. Do yourself a favour and turn the whole machine off for 48 hours so that it can properly defrost. The fault you’ve got is that the frost free function cannot cope with the ice build up you’ve got. The only way to rectify it is a manual defrost, do not scrape the ice, just turn it off. You may want to put a towel in the freezer whilst it’s off to soak up any water. Once you’ve left it off for 48 hrs, dry it out completely & switch on. Within about 12 hours it should be back to temperature. If its not then call an engineer.
ps there are no thermostats in this appliance, temp regulation is done with sensors.
pps the the fd number you’ve given must be wrong as it would mean your fridge was built in May 1944. I think the Germans were busy building bombs & planes then, not fridges !

    Hi Wizard

Thanks for your good advice. I defrosted the freezer over the weekend and so far all is well…

I see I got the FD number wrong as you said – it should be FD7405 so I’m hoping that makes it a bit younger than my dad!

    Thanks again!

Well done ! I tell 5-10 customers every week to do this & 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time it will clear the fault. the secret is to leave it long enough. FD 7405 is May 1994, much more like it !

Re: Siemens Sikafrost KK29U00 fridge freezer

It can sometimes be caused by the freezer door being left open without realising… or a defrost cycle skips.
Sorry ive only just replied..overlooked this one.

Re: Siemens Sikafrost KK29U00 fridge freezer

    Hi Wizard,

Just wanted to say thanks again – nearly 3 weeks later and no problems so far so I think complete defrost over 48hrs has done the trick

I’m really pleased to have got the advice as I was on the point of spending around £400 on a new one as I was worried I’d end up paying over £100 for a repair on an old machine and that it wouldn’t be cost effective and although I have some savings I have better things to spend those on!

Because it was supposedly frost-free model and also because apart from a small amount of ice on the floor of the freezer only there was no sign of frost building up it never crossed my mind that there could be ice building up that I couldn’t see!!
