ParticipantHi, Ive recently purchased an ise 5 washing machine, about 5 weeks ago. All has been fine until today, I put a timed load in to come on this morning which contained a singe quilt, this worked fine, put another wash in containing 2 pillows and a bath towel on number 5 this wash took considerably longer than the time it should have taken and when I took it out it was still soaking wet. I then put it on to spin only which should have taken 10 minutes it did not spin only tumbled, the timer went from 10 to 9 then back up again to 10 so it would have taken forever. Tried it a couple of more times same thing happened, do you have any idea what is wrong? obviously I will contact my supplier but just wondered if it might be something simple before I contact him.
Many thanks Olwen.April 26, 2009 at 11:27 am #284968kwatt

Hi Olwen,
It sounds as if the machine has detected an imbalance in the load. It happens with towels, sheets and single/small items where the weight can shift to one part of the drum and presents a danger of the machine vibrating excessively on spin. Virtually all machines have this due to high spin speeds and it’s there to protect the machine and its surroundings.
What you see happening is the machine trying to sort the load as best it can, recalculate the time on the fly (it will vary dependent on load and conditions) then try to spin up again. It will do this up to four times then abort if it can’t sort it well enough so as to be safe to spin.
The time thing applies to all loads. The machine will recalculate as it goes on how long it will take dependent on a variety of factors, it’s an estimate of how long it will take but it can vary, sometimes by a fair bit depending on the load, water pressure, incoming water temperature etc. all of which it can’t calculate until it “knows” what all these factors are.

Hi Kwatt, Thanks for reply I just thought I would try the spin on empty and it was ok, so I just put the wet towel in by itself and it will not do it. I previously had an old Zanussi s118t which was 29 years old when I replaced it and I was used to putting anything and everything in that without any problems and I must say it had been a brilliant machine. I think I will have to be more careful with what I put in in future .
KInd regards Olwen. -
