    Hi
    My dishwasher has died after emitting a pall of smoke. I have taken the front bottom panel off and found the source of the problem. At the left handside near where the element connects is what looks like the connection block where the mains cable come in. This has melted away and a couple of wires have come off.
    Please can you advise me on the following:
    Is it just a simple case of swopping the melted block for a new one, if so can someone guide me to the part that I need.
    Are there any known problems that cause the block to overheat and will need rectifying to stop this happening again.

    :rolls: WOW Andy!, I know nothing about these things but recon surely it should have fused if it was overheating that much. Luck it didn’t catch fire I recon.

    Hi: What does the block look like? Mains connection blocks can overheat & melt due to loose connections on the block itself.

    PLEASE REMEMBER POWER OFF & PLUG OUT BEFORE OPENING. 😯

    Unfortunately this sort of fault can often happen without any fuse blowing or tripping of the house RCD, there isn’t any overload as such or leakage / short between conductors or to Earth so things can just burn away merrily until the connection goes open circuit.
    Luckily this sort of fault is not that common.

    The block is a lump of melted plastic now 🙁 . I will have a proper look at it with a torch and come back tomorrow as it is a bit dark in there at the moment. The macine is run from a fused double pole isolator switch which it’self is part of the kitchen ring back to an rcd on the board, so it is well protected.

    OK let me know tomorrow & we will go from there, I dont think the blocks are still available but we can use a universal connector.
    Just 2 things: Are you confident in doing DIY Electrical repairs if your told how? & Have you got a Multimeter?

    its a smeg powercord for a dw f64

    not a fan of those dw personally, would imagine part is in the realms of about £48 if you ordered if from your local indy

    Hi Guys

    Thanks for the help up to now.
    One more thought. Does this £48 connector do anything special or is it “just ” a connection block? Is it possible to do the same job with something else that doesn’t cost the best part of 50 quid.

    The machine is mended now.
    When I managed to get hold of a tamper proof stardrive tool I took the melted connection block off the machine and had a good look at it. One of the live connections on the machine side of the block was quite a slack fit and it seems that this was the cause of the overheating was. I have re-terminated it using 20Amp Connection Strip and then taped it all up to keep any dirt out. The machine is correctly earthed and the capacitor put back into the circuit as it was.
    A couple of thoughts:
    Why do they fit tamper proof screws, they are a pain in the backside and when the tool required is easily obtainable what is the point?

    The price for the “official” connection block as mentioned by gandh 1 is very very steep imo. It is a connection block, a very nice one it has to be said, but none the less a connection block with a length of 3 core cable on the end. The price of £48 for that is something that a certain Mr R Turpin would have been proud of. Oh and I am not having a pop at you Mr G as you will have only passed on the facts

    Well that’s me off from this fantastic resource until the dishwasher packs in again!!

    Hi: Sorry I didn’t get back to you but i’ve been away from the site for a few days, while I applaud your repairing your machine. I have to say that this can by no means be classed as safe, you should have used a 13amp Water sealed connector for Safety. Glad to see that you made sure the Earth was re-connected, what you refer to as a Capacitor at the input is in fact an interference filter.
