Over the last 6 months I’ve converted some fridges with failed electronic controls to mechanical (vt9 stats) AEG Santos,HTPT RLA64(loose t/stat phial housing) etc,it’s mainly on the larger larder fridges.
AEG would have cost getting on for £165 in total for a new control board but fitted vt9 in it’s own box with adjustment knob in recess near motor and it works fine as have the other ones,Vt9 fitted and working £75.
The hotpoint I take a square out the back insulation much like the candy sensor repair to fit the vt9 but didn’t have to refoam as it came out as a block,just taped it back in.
Maybe this has already been done but if anyone wants pic’s I can put them up.

be careful as you are changing the original spec of the appliance and if there was an issue i.e fire and it could be traced to your un official mod you could be liable .

I have previously given the spec and mod some thought,little difference IMO in using a pattern/non genuine part on any machine as far as I can see,that is changing the spec too,anyone never used a pattern part?.
Changing capacitors,suppressors,elements etc with anything other than the manufactures exact replica will change the spec,might change it for the better in some cases at present.
Hopefully the engineer that enters the customers house should be competent to make such safety decisions otherwise we will all be painting by numbers,manufactures would then be able to charge what they like for spares,can remember when we were pleased to see pattern stuff on the market 35 years ago which helped keep genuine prices down.
It’s done with the complete awareness and agreement of the customer.
There is of course the opposite scenario on commercial fridges where manual thermostats can be changed to the excellent LAE/Carel digital controllers on commercial fridges which disply temps etc.
Having said that things like toc’s on tumble driers,ovens etc it’s genuine only,no messing.
