ParticipantHi,
I have a Hotpoint WT960 washing machine and the last few washes have left dirty marks and particles all over the washing. The particles look like the bits you get caught in the door seals, sort of grey coloured soft lumps a few mm in size, like clumps of washing liquid / fabric softener. The marks on the clothes seem to be the same stuff that has got smeared across the clothes in the wash. The marks wash out at 60 degrees but the little lumps do not seem to, although they do brush off without marking if you let the garment dry first but it is a lot of work to do!! The last lot of washing I did has the imprints of the circular holes in the drum all marked out in this gunky stuff and is covered in the bits of it too.
I assumed it is a build up of detergent or something so I have thoroughly cleaned the detergent drawer and the bit of the machine that it slides into and all around all parts of the door seal that I can get to and then run a 95 degrees wash but it has not helped. Is there anywhere else I can clean or is it likely to be something I will need to get fixed?
Any help would be much appreciated as I have a big family and get a LOT of washing!
Thank you,

Sounds like a classic case of overloading and/or detergent issues?

Thank you so much for replying and the link you supplied which I have had a good read through.
I think I have done everything wrong except overloading which I am careful not to do! I have been using concentrated non bio washing liquid and fabric softener, washing mostly at 30 degrees and have not been doing a maintenance wash regularly. Mea culpa indeed!
What I need to do now is get rid of the little bits that are in the machine. They must be in the pipes or drum area because I have cleaned every bit that I can get to with bleach solution and cannot see any bits anywhere – but when I use the machine the clothes come out covered in them.
Would my best option be to use the washer cleaner product that is on your shop site, would that dissolve them as a wash at 95 degrees did nothing?
Thank you again,

Thank you for replying to my post 🙂
I really appreciate your advice and understand it may take a few attempts to get the washer cleaned out.
I’m also going back to using biological powder instead of non bio liquids and most definitely will not be neglecting to do the maintenance wash!
Thanks again,
