ParticipantSorry to have to ask such a stupid question:
I took my oven apart this morning, something I’ve done a number of times, usually to replace one of the ludicrously expensive filmstrips, which was today’s job as well.
Having confirmed that the film had indeed snapped, I contacted Neff to order the part and then started to reassemble the oven.
Here’s my problem: I’ve got a spare bit. I didn’t remove it intentionally, but just found it lying in the bottom of the the compartment which contains the switches etc. If whoever reads this wants to say “serves you right”, then you have every right to, but if you take pity on me, here’s a rough description of the part, and if you can tell me where it should go, I’d be most grateful.
It’s black/dark grey plastic, and roughly cuboid, approx. 5x3x1 cm. It’s mostly hollow inside, with a few sticky-outy bits (sorry). It has two numbers on it, but I can’t find them on the parts diagrams on the web, and none of the pictured parts look right either. Numbers are: 195.174.439 and PA6.6-GF20
Thanks in advance

Sounds like it could be the wedge that fits underneath to the rear of the mains switch. Don’t forget power off!!

ParticipantCould you post up a photo of it on here ?
Take a pic , load it up to photobucket and then link to it so we can see exactly what the ‘spare’ part looks like.

Thanks for your replies. I’m starting to worry that one of my kids just found a random bit of plastic and dropped it in there when I wasn’t looking, but everyone seems to have a straight face. I already have a Google Picasa account, so I’ve put photos on there. If you can’t see them, please let me know and I’ll set up a photobucket account.

The temperature indicators and oven/grill setting indicators are all marked on a loop of plastic film. When you turn one of the dials, there are gears which cause the film to move round, to indicate what temperature you’ve set. I assume that the heat from the oven eventually makes the film so brittle that it just snaps when you’re turning the dial. I think this is the third one I’ve replaced, and the oven’s just about 10 years old.

Thanks for the explanation on the indicators. The unidentifiable piece of plastic remains so in my estimation as (looking at the parts diagram on the Neff website) I cannot figure where that bit would possibly come from? And as such is of little concern in the grand scheme of all things that cook. 😉

Thanks for your advice, which has put my mind at ease. I’ve put the oven back together and everything works, so I will consign the mystery bit to the “wonder what that is ?” box.

That bit of plastic fits under the end of the selector switches to support them. It doesn’t ‘fix’ to anything, just slides in between the two selector switches and sits between them and the metal panel beneath to stop them sagging down. Remember, power off !!

Dear Wizard,
Many thanks for your answer. When I reassembled the switches the first time, I thought that they were sagging a bit, and the mystery part fits very neatly into the spot where support is needed, once you know that it’s supposed to be there !
