Hi, i have an ariston a1635 and its doing the traditional clicking round and 5 flashes and refusing to drain.
Problems begain the other day when it stopped so i had a look and found one of my sons socks in the filter (i didnt even make note of how many flashes it was doing at the time this did the trick and it seemed to be fine
However after attempting a wash yesterday i heard the click click click… and saw it was doing five flashes, ive had the pump open again and even tipped it back unscrewd it and had a good look in it but cannot see anything, a small amount of water comes out, say half a pint to a pint but water still remains in the drum.Can anyone offer my next step of action?

Update:
have done the turning the machine off – put the dial on the red spot – turn the machine on – wait for it to blink and reset – a couple of times and this seemed to eventually drain the water, then ran the machine on a very hot wash and have now ended up back at square one.
How do i check to see if there is a blockage between the drum and the filter?
or does anyone have any other ideas on what the problem could be?

If you can hear the pump running then it does sound like an obstruction somewhere.
Could be in the hose from the drum to the pump filter or if it is plumbed into the sink waste pipe it may be blocked there.
If you unscrew the filter whilst there is water in the drum and it floods out then it would point ot the outlet hose being blocked, it it doesn’t pour out then its likely to be the sump hose.

Not really, it should be that obvious, even to an i…., sorry lay person. The hose connecting the pump filter housing to the drum or sump hose as it is called is fairly big, black rubber and easy to see from underneath.
Be sure to pull the mains plug out and have a few towels handy. 😉

I’ve had a poke around inside the sump and cannot seem to feel any blockage.
So it looks like my next step is to either call an engineer or remove the sump, im worried that by attempting to remove the sump i’ll do more harm than good to the machine, due to the metal clips connecting the sump to the drum and the filter pump, is there an easy way to remove these as I’m worried about the remaining water inside spewing out all over the insides the moment the sump is released from the drum…..

Lower the grey plastic outlet pipe into a low bowl or large roasting tray, not a bucket which would be to high. If you are lucky enough to be near a door just drop the grey outlet pipe onto the floor outside.
If it slow to drain then it confirms that you have an obstruction in there somewhere.
If it flows out then it suggests there is something stuck in the pump or it is faulty.
I did the thing with the outlet pipe earlier and although some water drained out the water in the drum remained.

Does sound as though you have something stuck in the pipe. Try and ladle as much as you out of the drum with the machine leant back against a wall before you attempt to remove the sump hose and protect the innards with some towels first. If you find a plastic ball in there its OK, that is the eco ball and should be there. 😉

Thanks, i’ll have another bash at it tomorrow – i’ll stick a couple of towels in that should hopefully draw out a fair bit of the water and then as you say cover the innards, do you have any idea how i remove clips which are connecting the sump to the drum? and can they be reused?

Not absolutely certain, they have started to use the large plastic toothed clips on some of the recent Hotpoint sump hoses but virtually all recent washing machine sump hoses are held on by wire clamp that is tightened by an adjustable screw, or a jubilee type of clip. Some use a corbin clip but not seen on Indesit machines.
Its worth mentioning that a common cause of small socks etc getting stuck in the outer drum is due to overloading. A use of a mesh washbag can help as well.

Just wondering, before i begin is it safe to lay the washer flat on its back? or is this a bit of a no no? only the kitchen is a bit cramped for space so this would make it easier to work on?
