    …you couldn’t get an ISE10?

I’m finding it difficult to find an ISE10 so that I actually see one before I buy. I’d like to do this because I’ve had bad experiences buying things I haven’t seen, so I’m not going to do that again. And it’s not an unreasonable request anyway. But I’m reminded that we still don’t have a washing machine, so I need to dream up a plan B, just in case.

I’m not so keen on Miele because I don’t want to fix something minor, then find I have to spend £100 getting Mr Miele’s laptop to tell the washing machine to restart. Reliable, repairable for the diy’er, and able to do a decent wash quickly (or at least more quickly than the competition) are the main criteria. Any suggestions?

Possibly high end BSH appliance. Bosch/Neff/Siemens. Make sure it is a German made one if you can. Parts can be expensive though.

Very few if any machines on the market these days are designed with the DIY market in mind. Sealed tubs, expensive electronics, weird fault codes etc.

Its a real toil for those of us in the trade, let alone Joe Public. 😥

    Here’s the problem…

You go along to electrical retailers that want to shift boxes after all, that’s how they make their living.

You tell them you have this super duper washer that’s built like a brick outhouse and is a doddle to use. This machine has a minimum life expectancy of 8-12,000 cycles which will equate to somewhere between 15 and 30 years depending on how much you use it. But, even when it does break, it’s cheap to put right and keep in service.

This is why they are chosen for many a light commercial application, they go in, work, keep working and when they do break they’re lots cheaper to maintain than anything of the same calibre.

But you can imagine the reaction of the the retailer that wants to sell you another white box in a few years.

To say that traditional retailers aren’t keen on the prospect would be an understatement. 😉

Hence, you don’t generally see the ISE range in stores but the repairers love them as it doesn’t matter to them if it needs a new pump or whatever in a good few years time. They’d rather keep the machine you have in service than have the hassle of struggling another one in, it’s easier to change a pump or whatever.

But if you really must have a play first and want the same sort of quality I’d say your only choice is Miele. The top end Bosch Siemens stuff is pretty good as well, but not as good in my opinion.
