I wouldn’t go as far as to say I love indesit. 🙂

But yep they certainly help pay the MPs expenses.

I wonder if Indesit were or are on Martins “Black List”??

Let me dispel your curiosity Tim by confessing that I haven’t any black list. I love all machines that go wrong and the customers that buy them. Perhaps if I were to draw up such a list it would probably just list Miele and ISE simply because I’m told neither go wrong very much. And my business is based entirely on repairing machines that regularly go wrong, so I, like Rolf, regard Indesit highly. 😉

Fear not Tim it’s an easy mistake to make as there’s so many of us Martins out there it’s bound to lead to confusion!….:snigger:

given all the alternative parts for a machine with the same model number I can understad why it takes up 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. jut heaters and modules then.

    Re: I love indesit

Interesting positions here. “50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of van stock for Indesit products” stands out in my mind.

If I consider the large number of Bosch machines which I service; I need to carry 4 door seals, two pump motors, a cold water valve and carbon brushes to achieve a near 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} first time fix on autowashers. These machine need maintenance, not repair.

By the same token, my first time repair rate on Indesit/Ariston/Hotpoint appliances is lower. I carry a range of maintenance spares, but there is no way on God’s earth that I’m investing in pcbs and drive motors.

Therefore: My Bosch customers achieve a higher first time repair rate than my Indesit Group ones. My Indesit Group ones pay more because so many calls require two visits – this affects the customers selection of repair or scrap.

This is where Indesit do the clever thing – pay £99.85 and get all your bits for free, no matter how many visits. This is now a threat to my business. I need to earn about £50 a call if I want to slip over to the pub most evenings for a couple of jars. Even Tony at EMW is charging £51 for the latest generation of Indesit boards (I will say clearly now, that I have far more faith in one of EMW’s repaired boards than I have in a brand new one.) with the return postage takes the repair up to £105.

My only advantage is that I can do it much faster and get the diagnosis right first time.

    Chris.

well Rolf, we cant be choosy these days, thats for sure, whatever makes us a crust.

Latest Hotpoint job..WD865.. under 2yrs old.. posh bird washing her shooting & fishing clothes with added waterproofing fluid in machine 😯
Frothed so much it leaked over the module.. Hope Tony at EMW doesnt have a fit when he sees the exchange!
And i thought these induction motor machines would do us out of work!! Nope, plenty for the canny engineer i’m thinking 😉

Chris I too am struggling to justifying a one hundred pound repair bill to fit a second hand part. But in my eyes thats the customers choice.I tell them up front its a recon.yet your right it doesnt sit that well with me either. The customer could have the whole lot new plus any other parts for £99 plus the whole machine guaranteed for three months. So come on EMW you do a fantastic job but please no more price rises.Tony in no way am I having a dig its just a case of .If we all work together we can all prosper.Madmac ive never been choosey and if she fancies you your onto a winner ……..kaching

Oops, was a little tipsy in the wee hours of thiis morning.. pay me no heed 🙂
Rolf, i wouldnt have a guilt trip about getting £100 for a repair, the customer i described above was aware of Indesits £99 deal but choose to use a local indy..me

Have to agree with your point on the panel price though, & the VAT increase due at the end of the year (or is it start of2010?) will not help our cause. The problem with these jobs is theyre always 2 visit affairs, & for that reason sometimes simply not viable 🙁

    Re: I love indesit

Now then, let’s have a little think about what this is really all about. What is going on with a Big Boy like The Indesit Group is economies of scale.

I’m an ISE agent, and part of the ethos is that we will provide spares after the warranty at cost, to the customer. Our manufacturers no doubt make a profit selling spares to ISE because they don’t quite think like the ISE group. Still, it offers the ISE customers a worthwhile saving on any repairs required.

I was recently mocked on a thread where I stated that I pass on spares at cost to my customers. They may pay a slightly higher labour charge, but this is often in their favour. I just happen to think that profiteering on spares is morally wrong. Sorry and all that.

EMW has been mentioned in this thread, and a comment was made about pricing. They offer what is effectively a “hand-made” bespoke service. Often the board is not just repaired but improved and should not be regarded as a “used” component. They don’t have “economy of scale” though. Every one is done by hand.

Indesit, by comparison have narrowed their production down to a few “core” electronic boards across their product range, which are no doubt bought by the million if you consider their market place presence. If any one of these boards costs them more than £15, I’d be amazed……..

So….. Set an SSP at £120 or so, make the damn things impossible to self-service (Home repairer, adaptor, card reader, card, hello…… Restrictive practice spring to mind, anyone?) and they’re going to gratefully run back into the arms of their caring manufacturer to get off lightly with a £100 repair.

The truth is more likely that there’s a £15 board, 5 minutes with a laptop, company admin and engineer to pay for, then the rest is profit. And there will be a profit.

The sooner that everybody realises and recognises that we’re all being ripped off on spares pricing, the sooner our attitudes will change.

In the meantime, as I said earlier in the thread, my sole advantage at the moment is speed of service.

At least ISE is doing something which I consider to be honest.

    Chris.

    Re: I love indesit

I’m not keen on modern Indepoint machines because it’s such a pain to get the module out, except for the budget WIA range where it’s behind the fascia. Hate the Zanussi down the side modules even more, especially WD’s.
Give me the Bosch anyday for nice easy working on. Ditto Beko.
Maybe a good way to semi-retire would be to only take work on the species I like. Hmm. 💡
    Mike.
