ParticipantHello,
We were woken up in the night by our dishwasher calling to us. It was beeping continuously, no pattern just constant. I have of course done some searches on the site. Reading this post from geeboy1 makes me think that the most likely problem is the infamous NTC. However I’ve just taken a look at the dishwasher and although Penguin45 saysIts a twist fot from undeneath. Power off first, please.
I can’t see what it is that I’m performing this to. Do I need to take anything off of the dishwasher etc first? Maybe geeboy1 could explain how he did it as it’s the same unit as mine 🙂
Could anyone give me a more detailed explanation to help, pictures would be great of course 🙂 feel free to mock me if I’m being stupid but please still post instructions 🙂
Once I can see it and know that I can replace it myself then I’ll get and order one. The dishwasher will of course be unplugged before attempting any work.
The threat of having to wash the dishes is very scary, I’m not sure I remember how 😉
Thanks so much in advance,May 16, 2009 at 8:30 am #286902Penguin45

WOW, that is quite a picture. Thanks so much. I now just have to get up the courage to take the dishwasher out.
Can I just check this with you (I apologise in advance as for most of you this will be an everyday thing for you) I need to take the dish washer out from the units, turn it over and remove the bottom? I presume this is what I can see in the picture, the underside of the dishwasher. I’m about to take another look at it but the more understanding I can get the better.I’ll be placing the order now as I feel I have to give this a try.
Thanks for all the help so far.

In theory, you can reach under the machine and do it. Part turns through 90 degrees and pulls down. If you’re not sure, or if the part is reluctant to move, pull the machine out and remove the base tray.
When fitting the new one, do not get it wet……..

okay, so the spare part arrived and looks similar. However the one I’m taking off has blade connectors and the new one doesn’t. The instructions talk about cutting the cables and using a tool to use the connector that came with it, but I wouldn’t expect to have to do that.
The instructions show that we have an NTC Faston, the item I have in the packaging seems to be an NTC Rast 2.5
Do I need to just request a different model? If so I wonder how soon that can arrive as the dishwasher is out and on the floor 🙁
If Anyone has any great tips to allow me to fit this tonight that would be much appreciated.May 20, 2009 at 10:10 am #286906mogy

I have looked at this some more, it seems that the spare connector that I was sent to adapt to the new NTC is the wrong type and does not actually fit into the NTC that I’ve been sent. This seems pretty poor. I’ve emailed the customer support so I hope I’ll get something back from them soon.
The problem is that I’m still without a dishwasher and I don’t have a course of action at the moment. The one thing that comes to mind is that the package contains another connector that is wired up so I can’t use it as it is but if I cut it and the wires going to the currently installed NTC then I could maybe use a block to connect the two wires. I presume the current is very low and so I could do this quite safely.
Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated.
If you don’t help me then I’m stuck 🙁 and £35 poorer and sill looking for help 🙁May 20, 2009 at 4:15 pm #286907jackster

You havnt been sent the wrong one, it comes supplied with the new connectors. Im assuming your current ntc has two terminal connections to it? If so you have to snip the old ntc off and fit the new connector (instructions in bag) and then re-connect by plugging into NTC, does that make sense?! 😯
Have you not a sheet of instructions in the bag?May 20, 2009 at 8:30 pm #286908mogy
ParticipantRe: Whirlpool Integrated dishwasher ADG7540 beeping
Thanks for the response. It turns out the connector in the bag was wrong but cutting and connecting via a block worked fine. Although saying that the dishwasher is still broken.
I placed it on a 50 degree wash and thought all was good until 1 hour in and the machine started beeping the same continuous pattern as before.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
I can’t afford too many more parts as a new machine is not too much more 🙁
here’s hoping I’ve done something stupid that has a quick cheap fix.May 20, 2009 at 9:15 pm #286909Longy

Hi, When the machine starts bleeping open the door and count the pluses of the start button and that will indicate a fault code. With that you will be able to pin point the fault.I would say with it going that far into the cycle it would be down to over foaming or a dirty sump switch.

Hello Longy I really appreciate your response.
I have just done as you suggested this morning and the start button is flashing in blocks of 3
Might you be able to help with letting me know what this code means?
If you do know what it is could you let me know if you think a non engineer like myself can perform the work? I’m keen to as money is tight 🙂
Thanks againMay 21, 2009 at 5:48 am #286911spimps

Thats a failure in the heating system, check the connections around heater as you may have inadvertently disturbed one.

spimps thanks for the diagnosis. I’ll take the dishwasher out again tonight to take a look. I guess I just need to check they are all connected around the heater (in the digram above) I really hope this is it. I guess the problem is that I replaced the NTC not knowing about the flashing codes. There is a possibility that this was the original problem, I guess I have no way of knowing apart from connecting the old one up again, although I think that’s now in the bin.
If it does prove to be all connected fine then do I then need to prepare for the worst? 🙁 any thoughts on cost and work required.
thanks for everyone’s help. Really appreciated.May 22, 2009 at 6:49 am #286913mogy

Hello,
Does anyone out there have any more information for me about this issue? It seems like I’ve hit a dead end. I would love to know more about the heating system so that I can make a more informed decision about where I can fix this or whether I need to either
(a) go to a specialist or
(b) buy a new one.any help would be most appreciated.

Just when you thought I’d given up…. 🙂
I’ve just taken the dishwasher out and measured the resistance across the heating element to see if it was broken. The following thread has a post from Penguin45 about the normal value of the heater resistance. He suggests about 25 ohms and that is about what I have so it would seem that the heater is okay. what can I try next?
I’ve tried cleaning the filters but can only find the black one at 3 o’clock.
running a test cycle now but expect it to fail 🙁
Thanks as always for any thoughts you might have.cheers

Okay so it failed as expected.
Anyone have any thoughts about the tests I can do to check the components out?
Could I possible have installed a faulty NTC? I made sure I handled it carefully as mentioned in the posts.
Could it be that the NTC is faulty so not reporting the temperature correctly?
Is three flashing lights definitely the water heater or could it be reporting that the water is not at the right temperature?
Should I measure the resistance across the NTC to see if it is working? Thanks
Gareth
