    Got F-04 today on my ever failing WD860.

    According to Hotpoint website it is a Pressure switch jammed on empty and I should book an engineer.

    I noticed the other day that the pump sounded a bit odd – but all worked fine so didn’t bother with it.

    Pump was replaced about 6 months ago after failing.

    What is the pressure switch exactly and what does jammed on empty mean?

    Any advice?

    the presure switch , obviously is a switch that measures pressure

    theres a bottle on the side of the sumphose whih then has a thin tube which then leads to the switch
    as the machine fills with water, air is forced up the tube and as a suitable fill level is met, the switch activates, and the valve is switched off

    now.. possible cures?

    1 > sometjhing stuck in the pump.. taking the sump of the rear of the machine will confirm this

    2 > hole in the pressure hose

    3 > faulty pressure switch itself

    4 > faulty control board

    5 > machine syphoning… this isnt uncommon in machines that have been sat for a while.. questions are – does it fill with water? doea the water level go up the glass? does it fill with water and never seem to fill up?

    that would involve adjustment of the waste hose… is it in a stand pipe? is it pushed too far down? the end of the hose should only be placed 2-3 inches in the stand pipe, not pushed to the bottom

    many questions, numerous potential cures


    but if your gonna look, unplug and make sure you work cleanly and safely

    Thanks for the reply.

    I will take the pump out tomorrow and take a look inside. It doesn’t sound like there is something in it though – just sounds sluggish.

    Now what I did notice is that the wash/rinse cycle came to an end and within about 2 seconds of End showing on the display, F04 came up and a noise which sounded like thye pump running was there – only stopping when I switched off at the mains.

    Does this lead diagnosis down any particular route or still could be anything above?

    Machine is under extended warranty – which is good as I have had just about every internal component changed since owning it – so getting an engineer is not a problem, I just wanted to try and fix it myself if it was something simple.
