    Hi,

We have a christening coming up next sunday and my young lad helpfully pocketed his sisters gold bangle (about 3″ dia.).

We’ve checked his pockets etc and it could only be in the washer dryer somewhere. I’ve checked the door seals and went to check the lint filter, but the screw cap has come away from the plug behind and I can’t get it open to check the filter.

    Does anyone know whether
    1) it’s possible for the braclet to have got that far?
    2) is there anywhere else in the machine that’s accessible to check? (it’s an integrated washer dryer)
    3) Whether I can get a spare part and break the inside cap off and replace it?

The machine is a Bosch WVTI2840 GB/03 and the bosch site shows a part 0511, but the inventory states ‘no spare part’.

    Thanks for any advice
    Pete

Re: Lost Bangle – Broken access cap to filter!

The cap will have become detached because the filter is jammed by a foreign object in the inlet tube of the pump and not entirely in the filter chamber.

This machine is actually a SMEG-built machine, so the only way to get to the pump is to drag it out and tip it back to a good angle. Release the two screws under the pump and it should fall back, allowing you to access the hose into the pump. Remove it, then you should be able to pull any foreign body clear and so release the filter.

If you don’t find the mangled remains of the bangle, it is possible that it is trapped under the heating element across the bottom of the drum. Heater removal, torch and fishing then required………

    Power off first, please.

    Thanks for the prompt response.

My wife tells me that the item is a chain bracelet, not a bangle as I’d thought: http://www.steelorchids.com/productview-1897.aspx , so I suspect that it’s found its way as far as it can get.

I don’t know the insides of a machine at all, but if you reckon it has got as far as the lint filter, do you know whether the plug that stays in the machine when the cap pulls off has a screw thread?

I ask because the cap unscrews a little then pops away from the plug. I can’t tell whether the plug that’s left unscrews, or if (where it sould be attached to the cap) is sufficient and I can try and lever out the plug without knackering any thread.

Else…. Christening looms and the agro factor vs. £66 for a replacement…. done deal in my opinion, but I need to be seen to ‘try’ 😀

    Thanks again
    Pete

Once again – the filter will not turn because there is a foreign object jammed in the inlet to the pump. Please re-read the original reply; it tells you exactly how to proceed.
