My Gorenje cooker BD 8860E has developed a fault where the main oven doesn’t seem to work (heat up). Top oven and grills/fans/lights all ok. The heating element was changed under warranty a year and a half ago. I have checked it and it seems ok – visually. Not sure if it’s possible to measure with a multi meter? There are two thermostats linked to the main oven, and the connections to one of these seem to have got rather warm as their plastic coatings (at the end of the connecting lugs) are burnt and have gone brittle. I boxed it back up and tried it and the main oven started to work? Not sure what I’d done, however when I replaced it back into the cabinet…..it doesn’t work again!?
Is it possible to check the thermostats? Any help would be much appreciated.

One will be a thermal cut out and a second wouls possibly be a cut in type to power the internal cooling fan (roller type),UNPLUG first,I would get some new connectors and replace,sometimes the cut outs develope poor connections over time and the melted cover would indicate that.Element would need a meter to check but if the cut out connectors have any movement on the body of the cut out itself I would change the cut out.

Thanks for advice, have been on holiday so only just checked out. It looks like the contact is u/s (badly burnt) on the temperature switch of the main oven. It was identical to the smaller top oven temperature switch. so I swapped the back of the switches and the top oven now works ok. I will e-mail spares to see if I can just order the contacts or I need a new switch too?

Well I spoke too soon. Having replaced the temperature switch and thermal cut out, it worked for a short while but has once again failed? All the connections look ok and sound. I’m suspecting the main oven heating element – even though it looks visually ok. Can these have intermitant faults? Can anybody please advise what resistance should be across the element once removed, before I order a new one?

What is the wattage of the element? 2500watts would be approx 21ohms 2000 watts around 26-27ohms ,it’s printed on the bracket.
