ParticipantI’ve been using an Ever Ready headlight for the last couple of years but it’s not ideal. You can’t detach the strap for washing and the foam pad that goes against your forehead has been rotted by sweat. it now leaves a black patch every time I wear it! I bought a new one in Aldi today for £4.49. This will be better as the strap itself touches your forehead and the complete back and strap could be put in the washing machine as it can be detached from the electrical part. It uses the same batteries, 3 AAA type so I can use the existing rechargeable ones. 😀

Bought a similar on in an Esso garage for £3.99, it was sold with AA livery on it and one of the best pieces of kit in the box of tricks.
Although the OH tells me I look like a knob with it on. 😳

The wifes gynaecologist buys them by the box phidom 😉 Must admit though, i go through torches like nobodys business, use one practically every day peering into some gloomy appliance, best one i ever had was maglite..though they should be good for the price.. but usually i end up loosing the buggers & the general public do seem to like a free maglite, cos i’ve never had one back :rolls: Maybe have a look at your Aldi one.

To be honest Lee shes right.I bought one once I looked a right pillock. They make you look like your going down the mines not under a machine.I think I will just stick to the old lead lamp. 😉

The other day bought a 24 led lamp which is shaped a bit like a lozenge tin about 2″ across. It takes the usual 3 AAA and is as bright as you like. Nice sturdy on off button so it doesn’t turn on by accident. Magnet on the back and a swivelling hook to hang it up from any convenient spot. Tried it today, very pleased; might retire previous led lamps. Only £2.49 from local cheapjacks.
If you think you look like a pillock, you should see me wearing my ex-soviet laboratory magnifying specs, straps repaired with cable ties, looking for dry joints. Customers have to leave the kitchen, being unable to stifle their laughter.

I suppose I’ve got less vain over the years so I don’t really give a damn if I look like a pillock. You think I should perhaps take off the headlight when I go back to the van for something? With the old one I tried to handle it as little as possible because of getting it grubby from hands covered in carbon dust.

Well, I confess I do own some cycle clips. Fluorescent, reflective yellow ones at that. However, sorry to disappoint you but I very rarely wear them now 8) due to investment in a bicycle with a chainguard.
As for headlights I think they look quite trendy. You could buy one of those low profile expensive Petzl ones in outdoor sports shops so people think you’re a macho caver.
