ParticipantWe have a Hotpoint WD420 washer dryer . It was working perfectly until one day the door lock light wouldn’t illuminate even though the door was locked , and it wouldn’t start the program .We tried changing the door lock but this made no change . The household that had the machine had a very over active child that liked to press every button in sight and the parents did nothing to stop him ( such a blessing to have him in the shop !) .Is it possible that he has confused this machine ?
Would appreciate any help you can give . This is the first of these machines we have had in (& will be the last ).we have had to refund the customers money and would like to know why ( we sell new and used electrical appliances ).
Door locked light neon is working I should add.

Check the harness to the motor and the motor itself.
Normally, if I remember correctly, the fault would be door locked and neon on. Then nothing else happens.

Thanks everyone for your input. I Will get to this machine tomorrow and the first thing I’ll look at will be the brushes. I will let you all know what I find. Thanks again.

Thanks lads, fault turned out to be a bad termination on one of the brush connector terminals of the harness. This would appear to be a Hotpoint in-house quality problem. Had to look really close before you could see it, but it was open circuit. 😀

What would be the same sympton but after a period of time door lock light flashes but with the final spin light lit. Machine does nothing. Would that be brushes too?

Generally with any less than obvious faults on these its usually check the brushes and meggar the heater first.
