Just replaced motor coupling having done same about 18 months ago.

When lid is lifted when spinning it stops with big jolt that is prbably breaking coupling.

Is the brake in the motor and can it be lubricated or something to let it stop smoothly.

Almost all of those i’ve replaced in the past have split into two pieces where the coupling fits over the shaft of the motor or the gearbox rather than the ‘fingers’ shearing off which i suspect is how they are designed to fail in the case of something jamming the agitator.

The replacements now have a metal collar insert now which should prevent this 😉

i think the new style is better but i have still seen them broken, as mentioned they are the weak point to stop any burn out (like a belt on a vacuum etc). any way its not a difficult job and a good little earner. not really a guarantee-able job, theres only one way to fit it and any tangled load would probably break it.

If it stops with a big jolt, it’s usually because it has not reached full speed. (i.e. if you lift the lid too soon), it is also noticable when there is no load in the drum

No. the brake is visable when the gearbox is dropped down, (similar to brake shoes on a car.)
