ParticipantAfter being frustrated with Smeg & Whirlpool am looking for a new one.
Key requirements:
Tall – ideally more than the usual 1.8m
width & depth – no real restrictions
must be built to last – ideally with a longer warranty – pref 5yrs
stainless steel finish
usual water & ice (crush & block) dispenserAdvice on brands/models/resellers appreciated. Have looked at the articles but they are a little old – though still useful but would be good to know about any more recent models.
Thanks for any suggestions

Personal recommendation, look at the current crop of GE. It’s the best bangs per buck (no pun or anything intended) that you’ll get in the way of a proper US fridge freezer.
If that doesn’t appeal, the Liebherr side by side. Much more expensive than many of the equivalents but also much, much better than them. It’s also much more “European”.
Avoid, anything from Korea or Italy…. bad news in this arena. I’d go with the Whirlpool and it’s many different guises before the Koreans though. The Koreans do bling, pointless features and flashing lights well but little else, in almost all products. They think the answer is to baffle you with acronyms and pseudo science, see past that malarky and, they use it on all appliances.
Beko, budget alternative, too early to be sure on them but, so far, they’ve proved to be okay for the most part. However, they just don’t feel like the real deal but then, neither does the Korean efforts IMO.
Outside of that, you’re into silly money as there’s only a handful of plants that actually make these things and many are the same thing in a different wrapper. Prime example, the current Smeg and Hotpoint range is no more than a Whirlpool with a much higher ticket price.
Caveat emptor applies.

Thanks – have been looking at the GE models. Nice, trouble finding one that is bigger than 1m80 – found some old references to taller ones but nothing with on-line stores…still looking.

Many thanks. Managed to find a GE model that is 189cm tall. Hard to get as is now discontinued but is being installed today.
