Hi Panda,
It’s one of those ones with the IR sensors in it so…
Do a search in the forums for “Whirlpool+fridge+freezer” and you’ll get loads of information on the common faults with that system.
But basically it usually comes down to replacing the front and back boards so far as I can see.

Participantcould it be the motor thingy that makes the ice maker arms go round???
as i have no other problems at all with the fridge freezer its cooling, the water dispenser is fine and i have no lights flashing on or off on the display!
as the parts are so overpriced i want to make sure i am buying the right thing first time round!thanks again panda x

I’ve never seen or heard of one of the icemaker units going faulty.
I’ll be honest though, if you’re not sure, call an engineer rather than guessing just to save a labour charge.

Hi. I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. Is there any red light on the right infra red when you open the door and turn the ice maker on? If all is OK should flash but I had no light at all at any time.
A friend of mine has the same model so I borrowed the infra reds off his and tried them but made no difference. No pipes frozen.
Everything else working fine but I had an old back board from when it was replaced some years ago due to flashing lights etc.
When I put the old board back in hey presto the red light came on on the infra red and the ice maker started working fine. As I had replaced capacitors 1 and 4 on both back boards (see other threads regarding this fix-the old one and the replacement board) can only think there is maybe a relay on the back board that had become faulty on the replacement one which was OK on the old board.
I had looked on plenty of forums to try and fix the problem but this is what it was in the end.
So to sum up replaced both front and back boards some years ago but kept old back board. Replaced capacitors 1 and 4 in this and when ice maker failed tried putting the old back board in and now everything works fine fingers crossed.
Let me know if can be of any further help.
