    Hi guys
Im having fridge cooling problems on my BEKO CGA 9756 Fridge Freezer (fridge warm, freezer fine) so opened up the inside-back of the freezer and found what i beleive is a thermister tied to the silver looking cooling coil. The thermister just looks like a tube shape thing…a tad smaller then a AAA battery. An electricle wire comes out of the thermister then goes and disappeared somewhere up into the fridge compartment but i cant tell where as my fridge has a CONCEALED EVAPOURATOR!!

Whats the thermistor do in terms of BOTH the fridge and freezer functioning and whats the wire that goes into the fridge? Can this be tested somehow for fualt?

The unit is a frost free type and generlly doesnt accumulate any frost/ice. When i opened the back of the freezer there was some long staligtites of hard clear ice at the bottom of the coils about an inch long in some cases. The rest of the coils where hidden behind a big metal sheet i couldnt remove so dont know how much ice was behind on the rest of the coils, if any.

    Two types…

    Negative Temperature Co-Efficient (NTC)

    Positive Temperature Co-Efficient (PTC)

    More info HERE

Usually on appliances it will be an NTC that’s used and all it does is act like a more accurate thermostat, reporting back the current temperature detected by resistance to the electronics.

They do fail occasionally, more so on some it others it would appear, but they’re easy to check. Put a meter across them reading resistance and change the temperature by dipping the tip of it in tepid water so that it isn’t at ambient and the resistance should change. If it does, chances are the thermistor is not faulty, I’d say higher than a 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} chance there’s no fault if the resistance changes. If there’s no change then it will be faulty.

thanks for that KWATT. That explains what a general thermister does and how to check its functioning correctly….anyone know how its used in my fridge freezer combo and whether it could be contributing to the warm fridge problem !!KWATT says it reports back the current temp…but my fridge freezer display only shows the fridge temperature (not freezer temp) so what could this thermister be doing in the freezer and could there be another in the fridge causing problems(which isnt accessible!!)?

NTC on freezer evaporator coil is there to sense temperature during defrost cycle. Poor temperatures in fridge on concealed evap beko appliances is often a refrigeration system fault. You would need an engineer to repair a system fault.
