    hi all
i was called out to a hotpoint RLA51 larder fridge this week, the fault was overfreezing on the back plate wall and food freeing. so i checked thermostat and it didnt seem to switch off when turning the thermostat to 0 , i fitted a vt9 but capillery was a bit shorter, and that wasnt successfull as i had to return for same reson. so i orderd the original hotpoint thermostat and fitted it yesterday but customer has called back this morning saying fridge is still not switching off any thoughts would be appreciated.

does the capilary get screwed to back wall? or does go down tube or housing?

A number of queries including the one from my friend above. You could have a shortage of gas/duff compressor – temperature at the capillary tube sensing end is not down to temperature and causes the compressor to run continously even forming an ice bank or sensor is not touching evaporator. If it is a concealed evaporator a VX0 is better than the VT9 or even the thermostat has been wrongly wired.

push on liner at the back, make sure its not loose or creasing at the corners, liner failure common, phial comes adrift from correct position….unrepairable

thanks for all the replys , the thermostat goes through a tube over the top of the roof and down to back plate. it is wired correctly,i think the low on gas sugestion could be the answer, but would low gas still freez up the back plate as this one does.

if so then whats the proceedure for regasing,i youse to do some gasing many years ago. is it same— prosess , tap the stub, add the gas with the gages.

Depends on the refrigerant – line taps do not work on R600a and secondly yes this would cause a freeze up of the evaporator panel.

I guess if you dont know why NOT to use line-taps on R600a systems I’ll leave it to Bryan (R600a) to tell you, he’s more diplomatic than me.

They can leak when I did my training only appliance you could leave them on was airconditioners.

I have a couple on the van that I use just to enter system if I suspect system problem, then if its a system problem replaced with proper valve while doing system repair.

The quality of them leaves much to be desired as i would not dare to leave them on permantly and knowing they can leak on one with R600a in them hopes your PLP insurance will pay out.

mmmm only a bunch ov monkeys wud use such a dangerous gas if it is that. altho ment to highly flammable.so if the fridge short o gas must ov laeked out . hope manufactures have insurance then. wat if fire in house. would that make a fridge wi 600a a potentional bomb?.so meny compresser failurs do to this gas. monkeys 😆

The leak of R600 from a Fridge wouldn`t make a bang, more of a puff.

Regulations are weird, mainly because there dictated by costs than safety, the cheaper procedures tend to have tighter regs. :rolls:

Your gas meter stores enough gas to make three terrace houses disappear. 😆

Yet they still locate them alongside your house. 😆

Have to laugh at high visability vests, was watch a programme on fraud and they guy explains you need to ware a high vis vest when stealing peoples bin bags for documents, as it makes you less noticable. :rolls:
