    Hi

Am looking to buy a chest freezer for the outhouse adjoining the kitchen which has housed an old tumble dryer for some years.

When removing the old druer which I had placed on several layers of thick cardboard it was evident damp had creeped through and begun to rust the bottom of it. Is there anything on the market or can anyone suggest what I could raise it up on or some tarpaulin type sheet perhaps?

The structure is water tight but obviously isnt bone dry.

Secondly on googling for an answer to this I note that some freezers will not work if the ambient temperature drops below 10degrees? Not sure how cold it gets in the winter in the store but its at xmas time particularly that you need the extra freezer space….. Are there any on the market that can work below this ?

    Many Thanks

    Hi WelshBoa

There`s this article in the advice and help section which should answer your questions, raising the freezer up on some 4 X 4 should help the airflow.

Thanks for the response – actually found that after posting. Am in two minds on what to do now. I gather freezers are probably a slightly better chance of suceeding than fridge freezers. Whats annoying is that none of the online stores seem to give the rating – n, sn, etc.

Got a local store could use so may see if they are more forthcoming with their information not being a corporate company.

If raising up on timbers is there a chance that any condensate that runs off the outer skin soaks into the timber and then tracks back up into the insulation? When I have read about the insulation getting wet and writing off the freezer I presume this is around the outer walls?

However. maybe using timber instead of using a water proof material around the timber would mean it would soak into the timber rather than pooling and wrecking the freezer or at least increasing its shelf life??

    I noticed a link when googling on Beko’s FAQ’s:

    http://www.beko.co.uk/Faq.aspx

    5. Do Beko freezers have an operational problem in low ambient temperature conditions?

No. In general, low ambient problem is observed in Fridge Freezers fitted with a single thermostat. So operational problems should not occur in single door products (for example larder fridges and freezers) at low ambient temperatures under normal conditions.

    6. Are all Beko freezers capable of working at ambient temperatures below zero degrees C and down to -10 C?

Yes. All our freezers are designed, manufactured and tested accordingly

    Is that slightly misleading?

Re: Chest Freezer in Out House

A freezer will work ok as long as it is just a freezer.however condensation is likely to form on cabinet and it may start rusting in a short while 18 months or so,they are designed for average room temp noy shed temps which will be mch lower.
