I have a Hotpoint RL150 fridge (no freezer). A major ice build-up has occurred on the back wall. Googling suspects the door seal – please see pics.
Any ideas?

From the pictures and the way that it looks to be installed, it’s also possible that the door isn’t closing properly which would give that problem.
It also looks like a freestanding unit that has been attempted to be made integrated to a degree, that’s not gonna go well. Not enough air allowed through to cool correctly.
The door seal does look a little tired along the top though so I guess it’s worth a try. I don’t think that’s the primary cause though, the icing is too bad IMO.

Remove from cupboard first, defrost and clean condenser at the rear.
It is imperitive that sufficient ventilation is allowed,this fitting doesn’t appear to give enough,the evaporator may not be reaching a low enough temp to cycle off the thermostat because of over heating of sysytem through poor ventilation.
Try running free standing before spending what would look like a waste of money on a door seal.
If it works better free standing you may have your answer,if not call back.

I’ll do that – in the meantime, after pulling the fridge out, I’ve discovered that there’s a 24″x8″ opening in the ceiling of the unit housing the fridge – should that not be enough?
Have a look at the new pics showing the back; I’m surprised at how clean it is – maybe it should be dirtier? See anything anyway? I wonder what the dark flaky matter in the white tray is.
