Recently my 8-years old Whirlpool machine started to misbehave. Everything I put into it comes out as dirty as before. The while clothes look greyish and definitely not clean.

After reading the FAQ I still can’t determine the reason for this. I only use Ariel powder, the clothes washed at 40 degrees and it is hot after washing cycles. It is certainly not overloaded.

I’ve heard that it got some sort of washing quality sensor (the 6th Sense in Whirlpool speak) but I’ve got not idea whether it actually exists anywhere beyond marketing world.

So, is there something I can do or the machine reached end of its useful life? If yes, then what shall I buy? My budget is in a region of 400 quid. A Panasonic maybe? 🙂

I would really appreciate your help guys 🙂 I went to Which website but they are recommending the usual suspects like Miele and Bosch (all too expensive for me), Candy (I don’t want to touch it with a bargepole), a couple of Whirpools, Zanussi and a Samsung.

Errrr – nothing should be hot at the end of the cycle……..

These old dual fill machines use a hot intake for some of the wash programmes – the rinses should be cold-fill only. All sorts of strange things will happen if the hoses are reversed – especially to the laundry, as the household hot supply can come through at up to 65c.

Set the machine to a rinse and spin cycle and check what is coming through the drawer.

Otherwise, cleaning and boiling as per the articles in the FAQ is the way ahead.

When I said ‘hot’ it meant that the laundry is not cold, but rather warm. Guess that means the machine is heating things properly?

As to dual fill – this machine is cold fill only – there is only one inlet pipe at the back? Also, it has been used in the same location for several years and no one ever changed connection.

Sorry for giving incorrect information – I was really sure that the machine is cold fill only… But then I decided to take a look at the back and guess what?
You are absolutely correct – this is dual fill machine!

I did what you suggested – selected rinse+spin and the water in the drawer was cold. I guess that means the pipes are not reversed?

Is there anything else I can check?
