a customer has asked for engineers inspection i have done 1 or 2 in the past each taking quiet a bit of time, are there a set format for these? currys have asked for it after customer complained there zanussi washing washing has put a whole into there floor! and cracked a few tiles in process, iv seen the machine and its come off one of top springs and the motor has struck the floor, the tiles have just got to be the best, largest and i bet the most expensive tiles iv ever seen. 😆 its out of warranty quote”

Please could you provide us with a copy of your purchase receipt and an independent engineer’s report, to assist our investigations. This report must state the nature of the fault, its probable cause, diagnostic procedures used and the total cost of the repair showing a breakdown of labour charges. If the washing machine cannot be repaired, this must be stated.

diagnostic procedures? hey thats a big word aint it!

the machine is now dead and no program seems to lock in.
obvious severe out of balance, customer swears machine has only a few socks in at time,

    Re: Engineers Inspection

If it’s the customer who wants the report, it’s because they want to claim off someone (either Currys, or the manufacture)

If it’s Currys who want the report, they are looking for reason not to pay out.

In this situation I would just state what you see, and quote for the repair. Don’t guess or speculate as to reason’s why it happened. And charge a full wack labour charge, or walk away. IMO

    Hi simonb,
I have been asked to do this a couple of times on behalf of customers for Currys/ Comet. Have always said no, too much of a liability. Good chance you could be getting involved in a legal dispute between the customer and retailer.

    Re: Engineers Inspection

interestingly I have just done an inspection for a landlord on a16 month old hotpoint washer dryer .
I assumed that it was so that he could blame the tenant ,the m/c has a hole in the tub the size of a 5p .
My report stated that there was hole in the tub causing water to flood onto floor no more no less.
It turns out that it was curry’s that had requested the report ,they came back and asked what had caused the hole i refused to speculate as I was only willing to report on what I found not on the possible causes .
    They are still arguing apparently.
