    Hi All,

The drain pump has burnt out (smoke from the side of the machine, then a blue flash and a bang, then the power tripped, according to the wife), when I got home I checked the machine and the machine worked fine but the water was not pumped out.

I removed the pump and there was signs that the windings had burnt out, I purchased a new pump and installed it, the machine still works fine but the water will not pump out, I removed the water, removed the filter on the front of the washing machine to check the operation of the pump when in the “empty water from drum” mode on the dial, the pump was not working.

No LED’s are flashing on the front of the machine.

Can anyone help me any further, voltage at the pump etc.

    Many thanks,

    Kev….

When you mention “voltage at the pump” do you mean that you have checked for this? When in operation there should be 240 volts going to the pump but you need to be aware that, on modern machines the pump is not operated continuously during the spin but is sometimes shut off to save electricity. To be sure it’s not working you therefore sometimes need to observe the operation of the machine for several minutes. Obviously if you do take voltage measurements you need to be mindful of the dangers to yourself and others.

if there was a bang and a flash, theres a very good chance it will have blown a track off the pcb

if its a new pump, dont live test, we dont recommend that

    always remove the plug
trace the wires back to the pcb, and look at the tracks.. youll probably see where its blown itself apart

you can try and fix it with fine wire and solder, but theyre usually duff

    good luck
