Our Servis M7262 has been fixed and I pass on the story to others.
Whilst our fridge is much simpler than his (fridge, freezer, light only), I am indebted to the hint and diagnostic skills of dufferuk in this thread:
http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … c&start=21
Symptoms:
a) Compressor not working
b) Light does not come on – just flashes briefly sometimes when you switch power on or off.
The device has a small printed circuit board (ITWISPRACONTROLS 08032412R2) which you can get for around £70. It has 3 connections from the brown live wire:
a) the bulb in series with a triac.
b) The contacts of a 24 volt relay which feeds the compressor. If you short these out with a paperclip between the thick brown wire and the adjacent white wire on the connector and apply power (carefully – tape it all down to stop shorts) the compressor starts running.
c) A big 47 ohm 5W resistance feeding a white capacitor 0.68microfarad which then feeds the rest of the circuitry. This is I assume the DC supply for the electronics.
The 0.68 uF capacitor was open circuit and showed zero capacitance.
An N73CN 0.68uF, 275volt AC, X2 rating device from Maplins is much bigger, probably sturdier, but still fits and has the same circuit board spacing. Soldered it in and all is working at a cost of £1.97. Thanks dufferuk – your name does not do you justice!
