I was just replying to a comment on my blog when I wanted to make the point about how expensive it is to have an engineer out on the road. It’s got me wondering if anybody has a good idea of how much it would cost for say someone like comet or a manufacturer to have a multi-skilled engineer out on the road?

I would guess it must be at least three times their basic wage but I’m sure some of you guys have a much better idea. I’m talking of total annual cost including the vehicle, holiday pay, pensions, benefits and monthly wage. I don’t expect accurate figures.

I thought you’d have a pretty good idea. It’s roughly in line with what I estimated when I said at least three times their basic wage. It would work out at about £240 – £320 per day assuming around 250 actual working days.
