ParticipantHi, I have a hotpoint electric cooker model number EW74 it developed a fault with the thermostat for the main oven and started tripping the circuit breaker for the cooker circuit as a result. Now i am awaiting a new main oven stat but i have noticed that the cooling fan will not shut off after 5 hours of the cooker being switched on, I have tested the (small stat) on top of the grill casing (with the ceramic hob lifted) and i have tested this over a boiling kettle and it opens and closes as it should but this cooling fan will not turn off unless switched off at the wall.
Any ideas what it could be would be great as i am hoping that with the cooker tripping out the electric it hasnt broke something else.
Also is this cooling fan linked in some way to the main oven thermostat as i am still awaiting this part.
Thanks for any help on this 😉

You’ve picked a good one here…..
The stat on top of the fan ducting is a cut-out to shut the grill down in the event of an overheat. There are two cut-in thermostats – one on the side of the fan ducting and one on the back of the bottom oven casing, which, together or separately, will run the cooling fan. The fan circuitry is linked to the selector switch mechanisms in front of both the top and bottom ovens.
You will need a test meter to chase this one down properly.
Good luck; stay safe, power off first.

Thanks penguin – So it looks like i have 2 things wrong :rolls: I will have a look at the bottom oven stat what you suggested as I feel that before the cooker tripped the cooker circuit breaker it was at its full heating ability.
Will let you know how it goes – Thanks again.

If i have removed the thermostat from the back of the oven switch will this make the cooling fan stay on, the reason i ask is there was mention that the cooling fan is controlled by circuits within the top oven and main oven switched.
The model number is Hotpoint EW74.
Thanks

well it looks like the small cooling fan cut off thermostat on the bottom oven is stuck closed (the top one is open)
is there a specific part number for these as i can hardly see anything the stat is that small.
There is continuity going through the bottom cut off stat which is why the dam thing wont switch off.
Is it common for these to fail when the main oven stat packs in also, mind you i bet it got very hot when it last opened the cooling fan curcuit and is now stuck closed :rolls:
