Having just read the news article on the front page here

Is this not just a kind of ‘Shake ‘n Vac’ product in that you chuck a spoonful in and it covers up the fusty stink build-up from within?

After all the detergent training and customer education in that regard including the ‘monthly service wash’ advice we all now give our customers these days. Is this product for real or just another sales gimmick?

    It works.

If people already have the problem it gets rid of it faster. And, if they pay for something to clean the machine they’re more likely to remember to do it. :rolls:

    How?

By the time a washer gets “smelly” it’s already too late. A serious of 95 degree bleach powder washers helps but it doesn’t cure the underlying problem, it can’t possibly even with the best will in the world.

Affresh & Smelly Washer are just cover-ups little Shake ‘n Vac before it to cover up your smelly carpets. Have a smelly bucket and throw a few rose petals in it and, hey presto, not smelly!

    Martin,

Why don’t you get some and test it before slagging it off? 😉

I don’t have a smelly washer to test it on besides I wasn’t so much “slagging it off” but merely asking you how it works? A trade technical enquiry if you prefer?

We are a curious bunch in the trade, always asking technical questions and not just accepting that anything works or should work but why do they work and what to do if they don’t?

I’ve sussed the how detergent works, what’s in it, what each component does….got the manual even. Even got two home visits by technical experts in their field to demonstrate and answer what questions I asked…..SORTED!

    So, and if I may?

Is it a bleach based product? The 24 sachets in the packet, is that a full treatment course to rid washers of aggressive build-up of malodour, surfactant and calcium within the drum/tub cavity? How do you apply the product and what settings does the machine need for it to be effective?

I have dozens of customers who flatly refuse the idea of using bleach in their machines. Will this product be a suitable alternative solution for those customers?

Questions, questions……I do hope you can help?….Please?

    😀

    Re: Smelly Washer?

They are designed to attack the bacteria and loosen the gunk in the tub.

Watch the video on the Affresh as that explains it fairly well.

    Affresh contains bleach AFAIK.

    Smelly Washer, dunno.

Both are not divulging what’s in them so I can’t tell you what I don’t know. Can’t really blame them either can you or some other smarty pants will copy them. 😉

What I do know is that they both work and do what they say they do.

Customer’s refusing to use bleach, are they total idiots?

The rest of your questions are answered on the product pages so far as I can see.

    Re: Smelly Washer?

All you need is Milton Sterillising fluid, works great.

And actually kills the bacteria producing the smell rather than masking it.

    Re: Smelly Washer?

Or ya could just let em run the cool washes and u get a job out of it down the line ( strip it down and some hard work ) cleaning it out manually!

Afterall its just a strip down job ( bit like a bearing job on the strip down and reassemble side? ) so a 45 minute job im guessing?

Rather than advising the customer about service washes and bleaches etc!

I see theres lots of posts on the “no work” topic!#

Its possibly because u keep telling the ruddy public how “to avoid” having to call you out!

BTW this aint as rant or anything, im just as guilty, just a observation lol.

    Re: Smelly Washer?

How do you find a client dumb enough to pay you for that amount of work and hassle just to clean it and have it return in 3 months time. :rolls:

I`ve always found the “If it ain`t broke don`t touch it” approach works best, I don`t want recalls on appliances that didn`t need work carried out.

You and I both no that a fault can be unrelated to your previous work, but try tellin that to a client who watched you reduce there appliance to bits. 😉

    Re: Smelly Washer?

That applies wether u took it to bits or not, even a callout and it tuned out to be the fuse in the plug then a week later new fault, you would still get the blame for that type of customer!

Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke?
You wouldn’t of had a phone call if the customer didn’t think there was a problem with their appliance that needed addressing.

Like i said, I was more pointing out about how helpful we are with our advice as to how to clear the smell over the phone with regard to service washes and the like to clear the smell, But in other threads there is talk of no work!

Also i did point out i was just as guilty.

So i don’t get your point?
    😕

If your having recalls on appliances that apparently didn’t need work doing then why were u there in the first place?

    LOL.

When you explain fully to the client about last and previous problems where unrelated ( and why ) reassures them and yet builds a bit more trust that will bring future work from the client.

I know what you mean with regard to “its broke again so soon that damn fix it man must be to blame” It happens now and then , Just part of the repair trade i guess.

Change the door seal, clean what you can access easily and sell them a couple of packets of AFFRESH.

    Re: Smelly Washer?

    Never underestimate the placebo effect.

Some customers just want something doing before they will be happy. If it isn’t you then it will be someone else.

Just do the best job you can and advise them as best as you can. Nothing more you can do.
