ParticipantHi all!
I’ve got a problem with a hoover fridge freezer model HMN2605AA,
Control board in the top is PRI335 (candy 41012152)
Problem I have is the compressor seems to run 24/7 and the fridge seems to freeze everything – especially in the bottom draw and the “frost free” back is covered in frost!
I did some initial checking but dont know what readings to expect from the control board – took some readings and on the 4 pin cable (2 white 2 blue) I have continuity between 1 and 3 – and 2 and 4 (1 2 being white – 3 4 being blue)
Took the back panel out of the freezer and these cables seem to correspond to a oxo cube size “brick” attached to the heat exchanger – which is cold and icy but not excessively so and the “frost free” fans running healthyly
On the black / blue pair (that I assume is the thermistor for the fridge) I get a reading between 365 and 368 ohm’s depending on the fridge temprature,
I found that if I turn the control up to “super” then back down to 1 the compressor stops for 5 – 10 mins before coming on again,
Is there any more testing I need to do – or from what I’ve said can someone tell me whats wrong – how to fix it – and where to buy the parts?
I’d be really greatful if someone can help me with this as I really cant afford to replace the whole unit at the moment 🙁
Thanks in advance

Hi Mark,
That model number does not exist ion the GIAS system, can you check it please and also give a serial/prod number?
If the compressor runs constantly and over-freezes then it will be a control problem no doubt. So, control PCB, thermistors or thermostats usually.
However, when you describe things remember we’re looking at a line drawing, no detail, no photos. When we look at a wiring chart there’s often no colours and, all too often, no note of what resistance you should get on a meter from any component.
We have to work it out as well all too often. 😉

Hi K
Dyslexia strikes again!
HNM 2605 AA
Serial Number 933234
off the top off my head (without taking the door off) the connector with blue/white 4 way connector is on the left as viewed from the LED side, the black/blue are together in the middle – but there physically 2 seperate spade connectors,
on the right seems to be the output to the light via a push to break activated by the door
Thanks again
Mark

Hi Mark,
We don’t get what blocks go where or how many pins there are etc. 😉
We get a block diagram. At best.
There’s two versions of that model, neither are frost free. Can you check that model number on the rating plate, not from anywhere else?

Hi all,
Sorry about the delay in replying!
The model number I gave was the one from a sticker on the back – but as its hand written in biro I have a feeling its not the “real” one, I’ve had a good look for a sticker inside (its usually next to the salad draw?) and cant find one – but there is some signs of one being removed,
think it was re-sold as a 2nd threw a store in birmingham and they sometimes remove origonal ID’s
at the very bottom on the back theres a virtical sticker / barcode – maybe the serial number – 3400055606406762 if that decodes to something?
Thanks in advance,
Mark

Nope, that number doesn’t mean anything I’m afraid.
Without the proper model number to look up the parts that’s pretty much as far as you can go as, beyond that, you’re just guessing. It’s like asking a Ford dealer for help but not knowing which car you have let alone the serial/VIN number, utterly hopeless in other words.
Sorry

Can’t guarantee it but, if it’s over freezing it’s liable to be the fridge thermistor from this link if the PCB has been swapped.
This is a foamed in one and requires a fair bit of effort to replace.

Hi!
Is there any pre-testing I can do or is it just a case of going for it?
understand it’ll need re-foaming in – and I’m happy working with filler foam (and have nailvarnish remover handy to get it off my hands/floor/cat/walls etc), but interested to know what else is involved if you can give me some idea?
Thanks for the link too – good to know where to get the part from!
Cheers

A guide to fridge and freezer thermistors here
This site’s a mine of appliance information you know. 😉

thanks for that 🙂 – no problems working with thermistors – a bit more concerned how much of the fridge needs dismantling and just how much foam needs digging out – if its going to involve removing the rear coils etc
Basically asking 2 things – where is the thermistor and do I need to get the metal case off 🙂
it’d be handy to know what connector it is on the control board – but realise from other posts that this is a hard one to find out
Cheers

KeymasterDunno, I’ve never done one but I’ve been reliably informed it’s not the most pleasant of things to be doing. 😉

well I dont really have any choice, got made redundant as a drect result of the smoking ban so altho I’d love a huge american fridge freezer – reality is I’m gonna struggle to buy a thermistor to fix my not so trusty old candy, hum I mean hoover 😉
wish me luck as it sounds like I’m going to need it – and if you hear on the news someone died in birmingham from a bizzare fillerfoam accident you’ll know whats happened :-))
serviced my condenser dryer last week and wow do they create/store crud, took me an hour a stiff brush and a vacum cleaner to get all the lint out of the nooks and crannys of that, considering how much gunk was stuck to the pump and was in the sump I’m amazed it worked at all!
Thanks for all the advice – its really appreciated!
Take care
Mark

Hi All,
Just a bit of feedback – changing the thermistor fixed my problem!
for those wondering where its located – as viewed from the back of the fridgefreezer its close to the top left hand corner under all the foam,
hope this helps!

Hi,
I have the same fridge freezer (Hoover HNMF2605A-80) with the same problem. Just one question. Is the thermistor close to the top left hand corner of the whole whole unit, or close to the top left hand corner of the freezer section? Just thought I would double check before starting to poke around.
Regards,
Martin
