ParticipantHelp please
Oven was on, all working fine, blew trip.
Since then no heat and no fan, but light and thermostat working.
Replaced element – same problems, light now not working (as of this morning!)?
Ordered and got fan motor, now sitting ready to replace – am I on right tracks? 😳

KeymasterDid you check the oven commutator switch and any cut out thermostats weren’t blown?

ParticipantMust admit I am a very amateur DIYist.
Gonna pull oven out to look at back re replacing fan motor – should what you suggest appear obvious? Or would I need multimeter etc?July 14, 2009 at 8:14 am #292061kwatt
KeymasterPossibly obvious, possibly not. 😕
If it’s the main switch it should be obvious, stats less so.

Replaced fan motor still nada.
Reluctantly called engineer to come out, explained what I had done so far and that still not working, he expresses confusion.
Walk to the oven, turn it on, saying ‘yeah thermostat light is on, fan at top of oven is on, but no heat or fan in oven’…. just as i hear it come on…. hadn’t left door shut long enough for it to come on…. 😳 Really pleased he talked it through on the phone with me!
Now, was it when I replaced the element, or the fan motor????………
Suppose we have essentially a new oven!

you could aways check your old element for continuity. its not a guarantee as an internal split could only seperate under heat expansion but if its dead when cold then u got a fair bet the elements shot!

As per #1 post, element has been replaced.

what i meant penguin was that he could check his old element to see if if had actually blown. i,e the one he had replaced. it then means he has a spare if it checks out ok!!!
