I’ve read your very useful guides with much interest. We are replacing a fridge freezer which is wider than average and have narrowed down the choice, using your manufacturers’ guides, to the Fisher & Paykel E442BLX (68 cm wide) or the Miele KF8582 SD ed (75cm wide).
The F&P appeals as it is slightly lower in height and quite a bit cheaper, but still from a reputable manufacturer. However, it looks as if it may be an older model – it is a B energy rating (although I have noted your comments on the significance of energy ratings) and John Lewis tell me that F&P standard widths are now 63.5 ( a bit narrow) or 79 cm (too wide). It is still available from reputable internet suppliers (eg Sainsbury’s).
Would you see model age as a problem and would you have any other observations?
    Many thanks

    Hi Kim

Just like the car industry we have model changes every year, sometimes the change is only cosmetic other times it can be a technical improvement. So buying a product that is say a “year” old should not be a problem later down the line if a problem arises.

Another manufacturer you could consider would be Liebherr I must admit I have not checked out the sizes 😉 They are a quality German manufacturer much in the mould of your choices, in fact they do produce some of the Miele products for them.

Thank you, Don, that is really useful. I have checked Liebherr out now but they are a bit on the tall side.
    Kind regards
    Kim
